Hey Guys

I know these below lenses arnt top of the range, but will they at least get the job done?? Im an amateur photographer, recently got me a 350D and I dont have the dough for a propper canon zoom lens.

I am aware that these lack image stablilizing etc, but i use a tripod, mostly.

You get what you pay for...
do you really believe that you'll get good quality out of a 500mm for £75 ?

Do not waste your money on any of these lenses -- You are going to need the 2:00pm sun to stand a chance on them working at all. You need to spend about 350.00 on a beginner lens one with an aperture of f4-f5.6

Sigh! I know the feeling.

You desperately want to try getting the longer lens and perhaps you will be the one lucky person in the world that gets a cheap lens that will do what you want.

Unfortunately it really does not work that way. There are some decent lens out there that are not top of the line but will allow you to shoot some of the shots you want but they not "dirt cheap", I would classify them as "less expensive" lol!

Try reading the "Top Ten" lens faq in the Canon EF and EF-S lens section.

Second hand is your friend for saving money, but remember that most decent lens retain their value.

Almost everyone here will tell you that it is better to wait a bit and save for a reasonable lens than jump at the first ultra cheap one. Its good advice.

Listen to the advice that Ikinaa has given, you get what you pay for.

Valpre,

be aware that these lenses do not only miss image stabilization.
All but one are without autofocus, and all of them have a really bad reputation.

The AF lens even has a warning in the image description:
Your pictures are only as good as the glass in your lens.
(At least I guess it's a warning so you can't complain afterwards  )

If you want to have a long lens that does not break the bank and bear with not having autofocus, then look at used M42 or NOINK lenses. There are a lot of good old lenses for the M42 mount that will give you much better optical performance than any of those new pieces of crap.
Look here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4688&item=7529718051&rd=1&ssPageName=WD2V) for an example.

Best regards,

This link gives some ideas to everybody who's interested:
http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/eosfaq/telefoto.htm

One lens that is worth mentioning is missing, though: the (out of production) Sigma 300/4.0 HSM.
http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=129&sort=7&cat=38&page=1
Needs to be rechipped (otherwise it only works wide open on digital canon SLR's) and normally sells used in the 200-300$ category.

Andy

For what it's worth this late in the descision making proccess...

I have used several of those lenses .
The first one sounds bad-However it is nearly identical to a very common design that gives pretty good results. In fact it may even be slightly better than the oldies i've used but somehow all the talk of diamond cut crystal glass and quad turbochargers make's it look dodgey.REALLY dodgey :)
Here's the lens that it's related to -the ones i've used -http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7529137015&category=4687&rd=1
These come in a variety of brand names and have been made for at least 15 years....
I have tested these against common telezooms like the canon 75-300 and this lens is slightly better than the canon @300mmf5.6.The cheap tele gets abit better when stopped down but the canon zoom does more so.(The test was done at different subject distances of course to get equal magnification)
Here is the most impressive pic i got from one of those.
http://members.dodo.net.au/~l8r_ron/pages/kimunor-500mmf8-%5B80k%5D.html

The second one i can easily say is just not very good.It will give low resolution and VERY low contrast.I've got some good pics from these cheapo mirror lenses but basically they are a real pain in the *ss.One takes a 100 shots and only get's a few that look good.Pathetic
Good brand mirror lenses are much better-still not as good as normal lenses but good enough to make them quite useable. I must admit that mirror lenses are a cool thing to own:) So small !
Seeing all those cheap mirror lenses gives me the creeps.......but not as much as seeing an auction like this!

"VIVITAR is a manufacturer of high quality, after-market photographic equipment. I find these lens to be the equal of, if not better, than the corresponding Canon lens"

O.......K

The third lens is another that is sold in many brand names.I have used one briefly-that was enough. It is just too compromised in it's design/cheapness .Even a 75-300 canon is sharper than this one  ,Easily

The last one is a real worry.Do you realise it doesn't even have an aperture?! The only reason the f stop varies is because of the zoom movement which cuts off more light at longer focal lengths.
Some utter plonker is selling these on australian epay for around au$700 -and getting buyers!!
If only i had morals like that-i'd be a millionaire
