I've searched and read a few reviews of each and even some youtube reviews but still I don't know if I should go with the 6MDH or 5MDH. Right now I'm leaning towards the 6MDH. I intend on using my setup causually so no need for big flashes and 5 lens kits so its likely my collection will not expand much more than the following items that I intend to carry:
Canon T2i
18-55mm IS lens
55-250mm IS lens
Battery charger/cord
Spare Battery
Spare SD card
I'd appreciate any advice offered...thanks...

You'll have no issues fitting that list in a 5MDH. I use a 5 and carry the following, 40D with 24-105, smaller prime 35 f2 and either a 70-300 or flash. It makes for a great small travel bag. I looked at the 6MDH, but it was noticeably bigger and I was looking for the smallest bag I could get away with.

Thanks StageOne. Would you say the contents are really snug? I guess I wouldn't mind some flexibility to fit a few more items if need be (iphone accessories etc) or maybe even another lens if the lens itch gets me worse. Maybe I'm answering my own question. Thanks again.

If you ever plan on getting a grip, the 5MDH wont fit a gripped body (at least not without some creative divider layout). At least thats what I remember when I looked at the 5MDH and 6MDH myself.. I ended up going with the 6MDH for my gripped 30D at the time.

For your current gear list, 5MDH should be fine.

My stuff fits pretty snug, but I would imagine the front pocket could hold an iphone or smaller accessories. I'm not familiar with the 55-250, but I think its close to the 70-300, maybe just a bit shorter, so you may have a little more room up top.
For some comparison pics, check out cambags.com. It may give you a better visualization of what will fit or not fit.

Thanks dizzy, speed, and stage. Stage, that cambag.com site provides the visuals I needed to make my decision. Looks like 5mdh will fit my needs.

The 6MDH is not even close to overly large so if you went for it just for the future, I'm sure you'd know it's a good size too.

When I had a 500D (not long ago, sold it to my brother in Feb 2010), I loved using the 5MDH. In the 5MDH I could carry a gripped 500D with two lenses (usually 35L and and one of 85L/135L) and the 270EX flash. I usually leave the charger at home - carry some spare SD cards and a rocket blower and small cleaning kit.

Thanks AKHOO and MOOSE, I decided to go with the 5MDH. Found it on REI.com with 20% off plus free shipping to my nearest store. Total price was $73.94 (paid CA tax). Thanks again for the help on the bag dilema.

I found that I could fit a lot into my 6MDH. The problem is how to wear it comfortably with all the gear within!
Testing the bag is a must. I find that bags such as the 6MDH don't sit well with my butt or back and neck!

The 6 would be comfortable. You'll be able to get at enerything without having to put the bag down.

I've got a 5mdh, and I usually can fit my ungripped 7d and two lenses comfortably. You can definitely fit more, but I shoot concerts and need to switch between lenses quickly, so having my gear fit snugly is a little bit too time consuming to get out for my needs!

Hey I posted a review here: http://photography-on-the.net/....t=889488 (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=889488&highlight=arcticfox3).
The 5MDH would fit everything nicely for you only with either of the lens is mounted on the camera.

i wanted to let anyone who is interested in the 6 mdh with my current setup. the items do not fit comfortably in the 6 mdh.
i just got the bag today and i was able to fit the body, the 35, 135, and the 85, but there was no room for the 85 hood. when i was trying to close the bag, the velcro sticks out on the bottom so its a really tight fit. i will be exchanging the bag for the 7 mdh instead.

Go big.
I'd get the 7mdh or a domke f-6
Seriously. Go big when buying bags.

I have no idea how you are packing it or how you have set up the dividers. I routinely pack a combination of 3 lenses from the following 17-40/28-75/85/135/70-200 and a gripped 5DII and have no problem with direct access to all the lenses. If I want an extra lens (almost all the time) I stack the 2 smallest lenses with a divider separating them. The bag comes with extra. There is no need for the velcro to completely be hidden when the bag is closed.
If you want a bag that will hold a lot more, look at the Lowepro Classified 200.

Do you know if I could fit a 70-200 2.8 mounted in the 5 or 6? I have a t1.

I know this is an old thread, but didn't want to start a new one for this question.
I have a gripped T2i and would like a messenger style bag, like the 5mdh , to be able to hold the camera with a Tamron 70-300 VC USD attached (tip of lens to back of body is about 8.5in long).
I also have the Canon kit lens 18-55 IS that I want to put in the bag and will be getting a flash as well soon.
Will the 5mdh be too small for what I want to carry? Should I look at going up to the 6mdh and will that bag work for me.
I like the size of the 5mdh, but don't think it's tall enough to hold the camera w/ attached 70-300
I want this bag for walking around a city and on short trips.
I feel that I will be using my 70-300 more than the 18-55 and don't want to have to keep swapping it out ever time I put the camera away.
I have a Kata 3n1 10 that I have made work that allows the 70-300 attached, but can't quickly take it in and out of the bag.
Thanks for the help

Sorry can't help you with the 5MDH but the 6 works for my 7D w/70-300 VC attached. Crumpler lists the dimensions of the 5 as 8.7" high while the 6 is 9.8". You might have 1.1" of room to adjust but I'm not sure.

I was between the 6 and 7 MDH and went with the 7 because it's larger and I plan to get a couple more lenses in the future. I'd rather have room to grow than no room at all.

That is a good point StayLucky, which is how I chose my last bag even before I got the camera with just the kit lens.
I know by this time back in Oct. of what my kit was going to be, but didn't think that i might want the zoom lens attached most of the time
All the pics show my Kata with the lens on the bottom, body & small lens attached, and flash above.
This actually works pretty well, but if i'm walking around a city I don't want to have to keep taking the lens off the body everytime I want to put it away.
I really wish crumpler would post the internal dimensions of their bags on their website.

I'm able to fit my 50D with 15-85 attached. 430ex and 430exii in their pouches. Battery charger, triggers, a couple small notebooks, pixel pocket rocket and room for 70-200 2.8 and a 35 or 50mm to go in there down the road.

See that seems like a lot of room. Really the most I see wanting to carry around is my T2i gripped, 70-300 attached, a flash, and
currently i have the 18-55 kit lens, but next year might upgrade that to something in the same range that is a dedicated 2.8.
I have thought about getting the nifty fifty to play around with since it's cheap, but not sure yet.
So that's why i kinda want a smaller messenger bag since i don't see myself having a lot of gear, plus i really just want this for day trips walking around in a city where i might be pulling the camera in and out a lot.
I think the problem i'm running into is that the smaller bags or less wide aren't very tall and won't fit the body w/ attached 70-300.

It it is a lot of room and a LOT of gear, not as much as some on these boards but it's a fair amount. Now, I may not always carry BOTH flashes and all lenses, but I'll always use the 7MDH. If I know without a shadow of a doubt I won't use either flash, or only one, I'll leave them or it at home. If I know I won't use a certain lens or lenses, I'll 'em at home. And conversely, if I know I'll need them, then I'll have the space for them. Plus, I'm a bigger guy and can carry around a bigger bag and it won't fatigue me or look goofy on me like a purse.

The 7 is a lot larger than the 6. I put them near one another in the store. Bigger is better for accessibility. I can cram a bag, but it's harder to shoot out of and swap lenses with. Counterproductive, arising from a desire to look all neat with a smaller bag.

I'd say get the 6MDH, you dont think your gear list is going to expand at this time, but you never know later on. I was going to get the 5MDH, but got the 6 just in case, and I'm glad I did, now even the 6 has trouble fitting all my stuff sometimes :) and that was just about 4 months ago.

But sometimes you might want to go with a few components, so having the smaller to fall back on is good.

Bump and a similar question. I have the 5 MDH right now and it works great for a XSi + 17-55 and 70-200, but I'm wondering if the 6 MDH will hold that kit + a Tokina 12-24.
I'd rather have a bag that doesn't stick out many inches from my waist (Domke?), but I'm also not sure if the F-803 is big enough. My body isn't gripped.
Any thoughts?

May somebody help me out in deciding 5 or 6 MDH?, for I would appreciate it.
60D *Non-Gripped* - 85 f/1.8 with Hood - 30 f/1.4 with Hood - Giottos Rocket Blower (Medium) - *I might throw in the camera battery charger at times and a Flash, for I might buy one down the line*

For what you have, I think the 5MDH would work fine. I would definitely recommend trying to find somewhere local that carries the bags to see what you think of the size.
I too was stuck between the 5MDH and 6MDH until I had a look at them in a local camera store; the 6MDH looked much smaller than I thought from the outside, but had plenty of room inside for all my gear. I currently have a 50D (not gripped), 28-135, 55-250, 50 f/1.8, 430EX, rocket blower, charger, and a couple other accessories with a bit of room to spare in my 6MDH.
