Hi there,
About a year ago (yes guarantee just run out) I purchased a Powershot A70 and it was working fine. Until a few weeks ago it just didn't respond anymore. I turned it on and off again and it was working fine again. Recently more and more times this problem occurs. I already changed batteries and the memory card but this doesn't fix the problem. Does anybody else have this problem? What can I do about it???:(
thanks.

Define "doesn't respond". Does it shut itself off? Does it work temporarily with brand new batteries (Do you use alkaline or rechargables)? Does it turn on but do nothing when you click the shutter button? Can you view pics on the LCD? Does it turn on at all?
Explain please. :)

I can turn it on and off normally, the LCD does work, I can see what I point at, but further it doesn't do anything. I cannot take a picture, zoom, view a picture or change the mode. New batteries don't work at all. I use NiMH 2050mAh rechargables. Which have worked fine untill now.

Hi, similar thing has happened to mine, and 2 others belonging to my sister in law, and another friend.
At first the pictures started streaking, now not even that. The flash fires, but no picture is taken. You can only display photos taken before it stopped taking pictures.
A camera repair man said it might be the shutter.
Is there a camera defect that Canon is ignoring?

Mine doesn't respond at all. I cannot even look back at old pics. But recently it started working again. I dare not send it to the repairman, because you will see it will function fine when it is there. Guess I'll have to wait and see what happens.

The EXACT same thing happend to mine... the LCD started with sort-of purple streaks and if you tapped it they would go away and eventually it died like yours. This happened to a friend of mine as well.
