The lightining provided a dramatic and colorful backdrop to the landscape.

wow amazing shots were they hard to capture, what settings did you use

I used bulb mode on the camera and experimented with various apertures and ISO's. I started shooting at twilight and used ISO 160, as the skies darkened I increased the ISO to 320 and then to 400. Exposures ranged from 3-4 seconds to 30+ depending on the ambient light and the intesity of the lightning strikes. Using digital makes this much easier since I was able to review the histograms and the images immediately and get some feedback for my settings and shutter durations.

The hard part was guessing when and where the lightning would strike. ;-)

Beautiful ! & just how did you get that ?

On this particular evening the skies and lightning were particularily active. The lightning strikes were very frequent and ranged along the western and northern horizons. I framed the foreground that I wanted that was in the general direction of the strikes. Then it was just a matter of guessing when the lightning would strike and being fortunate enough to have the shutter open at that time. It was difficult to get the exposure of the foreground correct and still retain the color of the skies and catch the lightning as well. As i mentioned in an earlier post using digital makes this much, much easier. Being able to get instant feedback via the histogram and LCD image was extremely valuable in determing the correct settings and exposure.
