Im going to purchase some Cybersyncs and either a collapsable softbox or Umbrella to do some off camera flash work. I have been googling and looking through online stores to try and figure out the set-up to putting them on a stand. I just dont get it.

I need to buy what and put it together how?!! lol

Lets so I go with a 60 inch black white Umbrella. What do I need to get to mount it with my 580ex?

that's a big umbrella. i would suggest a smaller one. 42" should be fine and plenty big.

You need a stand. The impact stand from B&H is a good one.

Then you need a swivel bracket. Lon sells a good one.

Swivel Bracket (http://flashzebra.com/brackets/0041.shtml)

Or if you are going to use 2 flashes, B&H sells a kit for $100 wioth 2 umbrellas, 2 stands and 2 brackets.

oh, and once you get it all it should be fairly obvious.

bracket on top of the stand. flash mounts to bracket and the umbrella goes through this little hole in the bracket.

Thank you. I figured it was probably easy and I was making it hard. I just didnt even know where to begin. Ill get the 42" umbrella then. I just figured with only one flash atm that the larger umbrella would help disperse light better.

I have a 62" PLM which is basically an umbrella with a big diffuser on the front. its huge when it it set up. there is just no need.

even a 32" umbrella can be used as a bounce for wide dispersion and a shoot through to control it more.
