I am confused my choice.
Right now I have:
7D
70-200mm f/4 non-IS
50mm II f/1.8
I figure the 17-50mm would compliment my lens collection and pretty much complete it: I will at least have covered all of the range that I need.
I can't afford both right now.
My primary subject is motocross/sports. I particularly shoot hare scrambles (which is just a motocross race in the woods). The flash would be good for dark environments, but the wider angle would be good too because the trails are tight.
I'm not sure I fully understand the benefits of having top of the line dedicated flash like the 580ex. I realize it has more power, but is it miles ahead the cheaper 430ex?
I also have to take into account that if I shoot people, I will most likely need a softbox to soften the light, since it is still harsh light.
The main advantage I see to the light is being able to move it around and put it where I want, and use my 7D's wireless capabilities to trigger it.
Any thoughts?
