Challenge #269 - Egging you on...
This being springtime around here, with holidays that rejoice in life’s splendor and the Earth’s rebirth, when is a better time to bring up the subject of the egg? You got it…the egg. So show me 1, 2, a dozen or more omelets-to-be saying, "Cheese!" Scramble the Easter Bunny with your artistic wizardry. Crack a yoke. Bring’em on either white, brown, speckled, soft-boiled or dyed. As brittle as its shell might be, I want you to stretch both it and yourself. Take them out of context, do something that makes us go “Wow!”, giggle or wonder, “Hey, how’d they do that?”

I see that a long…long…time ago a similar challenge was presented by our pal teekay on the 5th such challenge, presented way back in March 2005. It’s time for a rebirth.

---------------------
Eggsalent job folks. You did yourselves proud with sharp, colorful, provocative and even funny photos. Who could ask for anything more? I'm cutting to the chase tonight so here's how I see it:

Third place: teekay - Chicken Olympics: The Egg Luge: Loved this photo! Terrific setting...only wish the face showed the true terror a fragile being such as an egg might exhibit doing something so terrifying. I was thinking something like this: http://scrapetv.com/News/News%20Pages/Technology/images/comcast-g-force.jpg or better yet...this: http://www.deitchley.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/monkey1.jpg

Second place: afkenner - Don't crack under pressure The photo is perfectly sharp, nicely lit, and well presented. 'sides I'm a sucker for monkey wrenches.

Drum roll please...

First Place: IVOlution - Big huevo If you didn't win by shear volume, it must have been the wonderful composition, the dramatic lighting and sharpness. Nicely done, sunnyside up.

Congrats to all the others, your photos were right there with these guys. You made this a very difficult challenge to judge.

Oh my god, oh my god, I am the chosen one......yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! 1st timer!!!! Yuppiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!
I am so excited, LOL :)
I was actually, about to make something like mrshobden and then I saw her post and went grrrr....
This egg stand is in Boqueria market here in Barcelona and they always have "nicely presented eggs". First thing that went through my mind when I say the big huevo was: How did they do that !??! The lady told me, they did not do it, an ostrige did... :)
uh, I did not expect this...now I have to think hard for the next creative challange.
Congrats to afkenner and teekay and all the rest of the participants!
CarloY, what is that?? A flashlight behind an egg in the dark or something?
tnx guys, I go think now...

Congrats IVO, good show! Also congrats teekay and afkenner. Well done Mrshobden.

I also like rpolister's, but would have titled it "xeggs and ohs".;)

Thanks for hosting Kevan.

Nice one Ivo! Great imagination from all entrants. I was pushed for time and would have scrambled to prepare an entry. Sorry to have missed this neat challenge.

Great picute IVOlution, congratulations!
Well done afkenner and teekay
I enjoyed the other imaginative shots too, specially the perspective of mrshobden's composition and the theme of this week by Kevan_G9.

I had my picture on hold in the computer and posted it only after hours of indecision. Too much steel and aluminum for a 'nature' topic I thought.

I would like to share with you a couple of captures from the facebook page of Svenja, a young friend of my sons that came from Germany to spend several months on the Ecuadorian Jungle. She got this beautiful series named The monkey...and the egg long before Kevan posted this theme. Enjoy. (click to enlarge).

This challenge was a lot of fun! Thanks Kevan for this great idea and congrats to IVOlution on the winning shot, yours was my favorite too! Composition, lighting, the sheer quantity of subject matter all work together to create a WIN. Cheers to everyone who entered - a lot of great visuals (and puns) were hatched in this eggshellent competition.

It was nice to learn to shoot with my G10 in a new way. The warm welcome from all is much appreciated, and I'm looking forward to joining the fun in future challenges!

Eggsactly what I feared for this week, everyone being very busy. I figured maybe there would be some of eggs in people's lives, what with all the feasting. I tried to make it easy.

I did think you had everyone beat with your colors. :)

During a Saturday ride I saw this tree in a park not too far from where I live. As I rode on I got to thinking about this challenge and thought, what the hey...I'm gonna return later today and take my shot. The processing was rather slap-dashed, but here's another egg.

Congratulations IVOlution....!!! ....at least by getting my picture in first you were able to produce the winning shot!!!
Congrats to the runners up too!
Marie - I did have fun in trying to produce my shot although my youngest son who's 3 looked me very suspiciously as I laid on the floor, drew the faces with icing and then played with them to get the "feel" for a picture ....at one point he laid down beside me and tried to join in!!
I'm looking forward to the next challenge!!!

Congratulations to IVOlution and Afkenner, and thanks for the #3 spot, Kevan.

You are quite right about the unsatisfactory face on my luging egg, but I found it very hard to draw a good one. Once drawn, faces could not be erased, so I ended up with all the eggs in the fridge having unsatisfactory expressions and I eventually chose the best of a bad lot.

Maureen Souza's shot has terrific colors. It made me laugh because I also shot a similar concept earlier in the day. I had a tough time choosing which shot to submit for the challenge - the monkey wrench shot beat the one below by a slim margin:

Sometimes, the images shared after the challenge are almost as good or even better than the entries!. Clever pictures Kevan and afkenner.

I forgot an egg picture on my archives, so here I go:

I have said many times that the earth's equator crosses our country near Quito, where I live.
The local tourist guides have several amusing tales about things happening at latitude 0°0'0". Among them, the 'astonishing increase of equilibrium' is demonstrated with the setup at left. Do not spread the word, but even in the equator some eggs follow the universal law of gravity as you can see in the floor of the wider shot :)

Dang! This picture should be used on the before-and-after challenge of this week :(
