I had just arrived at work yesterday morning when I noticed the Rose of Sharon bush in front of where I work was full of activity. Like a good photographer, I had my camera with me and snapped a couple shots. I don't really consider this great because I was in a hurry to clock-in and the little buggers wouldn't stay still very long. I have another shot with a bee on a flower and one coming in for a landing but the flying one is a bit blurry. I thought this was the better picture. I really think the pollen collection on his legs is terrific. I wish it had been more in focus. It was taken with a Canon Rebel and kit lens. I did some cropping and enlarged it with Adobe Photo Shop. Let me know what you think. If you're interested in the other pic, let me know and I'll post it. Thanks!

Try using Unsharp Mask in the Filters menu, too. For florals and soft subjects, I use 150% amount, Radius 1, and Threshhold 10. Another all-around setting, is Amount 85%, Radius 1, and Threshold 4. Or just play with your own settings until you come up with something you like. Just make sure you make all your other adjustments first. Sharpening should always be done last when you edit an image. And use the Save As command so you retain the original image.

I like the crop you used for the second one, by the way. That bee was in heaven!

I shot this in full AF. I'm still new at this and MF is a bit overwhelming to me. I do plan to practice with MF. I always save my original and have a seperate file for my post processing. I'm very familiar with that aspect as I am a co-editor for an online quarterly magazine. I also design web pages. Always smart to save the original. Thanks for your comments. BTW I did post the other shot "Flight of the Bumble Bee". Hope you like.

Yes, I replied to that one as well. You inspired me to post one of my "bee pictures." Haven't gotten any feedback on it yet, though, and it's already on page two (Title "Here's my bee picture). That's the only thing I hate about this forum. There are so many posts that images often go unnoticed and without comments. It makes me feel like my images are inadequate.
