I'm just starting out in all of this and have read Digital Photography for Dummies and recently aquired Understanding Exposure. Sometimes I feel like I'm in the middle of a math lesson in a different language, it is all so overwhelming. Is there a good book that spells everything out in simple terms?

There's an extensive list of books in the 3rd post down of this forum. Each book or link was recommended several of the members here. Reviews and synopses are included.

I reckon one of learning would to be not trying to take it all in at once.

Start with one thing, say one chapter of the Dummies book. Go through it, and if you don't understand, refer to other books and resources until you do. Once you fully understand and feel relatively confident, then try something else.

Might take a while, but you can end up with a strong understanding and knowledge in it.

my first book about two months ago was this one:

Complete Digital Photography: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1584503564/qid=1121265668/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/002-0097168-4465654

It was easy to read and I felt it had the substance I was looking for.

Cheers

I've liked the National Geographic Field Guides.

There seems to be a new one out there as well, focusing on Digital.
