This is the first time I've ever attached an image to a forum. I took these pictures at my mom's 4th of July picnic using my 350D and all auto. Comments are welcome. By the way.... this forum rocks!!

Keep the pictures coming.
I like both of these.
The first is sort of a snapshot that she probably was not happy that you took, but these work very well for family gatherings and for conversation pieces in later years.http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
The second is quite a nice portrait. Older people have such character in their faces.http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif
It is very well exposed and it is sharp. I like sharp but some people prefer a softer focus for a portrait. It all boils down to personal preference.

First - welcome to the forum. They look great. It looks like she is about to kick you @$$, but most people dont love being shot eating... but that never stopped me either. Great family stuff and absolutely not looking like average snapshots.

Thanks for the comments and the welcome! :) You're right about her wanting to kick my butt!! She was really unhappy  when I took that shot but I was pleased with the way it turned out. These two ladies have been best friends with my mom for over 30 years.

Thanks for your comments. I also like the sharpness in most portraits. These ladies have been friends with my mom for over 30 years. And the first lady was definetely not happy when I took that picture.

very good shots. But the first one is a little dark, flashing it up a bit.

Welcome to the forum :D
I like both pictures, but the first one is my favourite.
For some reasons I like everything in it, the colours, the reflection in the glasses, and its livelihood.
Contrary to her not liking you to take the shot at that moment, I think she will definitely like it if you show it to her :D
Also, I think both of them have aged gracefully ... and you brought it out well.
Best regards,
Andy

Also wanted to add that brightening it up a bit would be an easy fix in Photoshop! I really really like that first pic!
