I have been doing some research and a friend from work suggested that maybe I should go with the Rebel xt, because the 20D may be out of my range ($$). I went to a local camera store (Kits Camera) and was lucky to have an actual photographer with (large prints from his rebel xt to show) with lots of advice, walk into the store, whilst the nice lady at the counter was going over prices and all the things I will need to include (warrenty as well) for the 20D, was talking to me. Price was going over $2000 bux and i was getting discouraged, but this nice gentleman told me that he owns a 20D, but finds he uses his Rebel xt more. He showed me examples of prints from both the 20 D and the Rebel xt and I was impressed with the sharpness and "pop" factor that the Rebel XT has.
He also said that if its the "kit package" from "Canon" that it would come with the batteries as well as the charger, but i did not ask the lady at the desk (was sooo overwhelmed with the posibility that I could get great pictures with a lower priced camera, that i forgot to get more details.
My question here is, does the "kit package" come with the charger, batteries and a starter "cf card"?
This gentleman, did mention that the 20 D is built sturdier (hope i spelled that right:P) and is more durable, but as for "quality" in pictures I wont see much difference and that I should get the Rebel xt and save my money for good lenses.
Any tips, advice (picture examples:P) would be so very welcomed:)
Thank you,

Learner,
You will like the XT. If the smaller size doesn't bother you, it will suit you well. I had the XT and loved it. I upgraded recently to the 20D just because it is built, as you said, sturdier. Many will tell you that is not a good enough reason to buy a 20D, and I probably agree. I just had it in my mind that I wanted a 20D. Wanted, not needed! The XT will give you pictures just as good as the 20D.
Enjoy!

I can identify with that completely. I can take lovely pictures with my 300D, don't need a fast camera for the type of images I take and yet something inside me tells me I want a 20D.
Happy snapping, David :)

Thats not the correct format of memory card for the 350D/XT. You need a compact flash format. Sandisk ultra II 1gig CF card is what your after :)

The Sandisk Ultra II is a memory card, 1 gig is the size you want and it has to be Compact Flash format. I think mine cost me $85 from Costco.

willie's - right SanDisk is the largest mfgr. of CF cards and certainly one of the most reliable.

The XT will give you fantastic pictures and by and large is pretty equal to the 20D in that regard. The 20D is more expensive and for good reasons with its better build quality, faster shooting, bigger buffers and a few other things but the XT's a great camera. Remember that for many of us the cost of the body is only a fraction of the total cost once you factor in additional lenses and CF cards etc so if money is an issue (when isn't it?) getting the XT with a CF card and a better starter lens would be a wise move vs getting the 20D and having to make do with the kit lens for a long time. You might also want to read though the forum here as there's a number of detailed threads outling exactly what the differences are between the various camera bodies and there's several threads on what the most recomended starter lenses are.

Unless you desperately needed one of the few advantages the 20D has over the 350D (Rebel XT), I would go with the latter. You will not be able to tell the difference between the image quality of the two, but the extra money can go towards a very nice lens.

also, if you were to just get the body, it would still have the battery and charger, and all the software, just no lens. then you could choose a lens. that, however, would be more expensive. ;)
