I hacked my 300d and now I feel stupid

I should have done this the day I got it.

mirror lockup: forgot that release cable..no problem..i love it i can watch the camera stop shaking and then hear the shutter open..its great

servo focus mode: cant take a shot but i just hold the shutter button all the way in and when i lock on with the 'left' button it takes the picture so its good enough for me

FEC: :mrgreen: its great...it will come in handy when i get my flash soon i'm sure...works well with the onboard flash too

I would love some info about hacks for the Rebel also! I've had mine a year now :oops: and just found out about the upgrades from this board! Are there any downfalls from the hacks?

MrChad - YES - the FEC does work with the hacks and they are worth installing on a 300D JUST for that feature alone.........I use it all the time.......

Forget it ... 350d doesn't have a hack. The hacks work on the 300d and upgrade the Canon original firmware. You can use the links I posted to see what extra facilities 300d owners get.

lamdbat: They are not for you, just for 300D users. Canon thought it was a good idea to release a really crippled version of the 10D for some reason... they learned their lesson before the release of the 350D though =)

I heard that servo mode doesn't work in the hack - it's an option but doesn't function.
And FEC works in-camera, but will not control your external flash. I have to set FEC on my 550EX through the flash not the in-camera setting.

Ok ok, actually the hack is the first thing I read about when i first found this board. I still haven't done it but I'm REALLY considering it. AAAA heck. I just REALLY REALLY REALLY don't want to mess up my 300D. It's the only Digital SLR I have. Oh well...nothing ventured nothing gained....

Please disregard my last post, as now I'm a hacked guy! lol. The one thing that really does bother me though is that of all the things the hack gives you, It still dosen't give you the part I wanted most: Rear curtain sync. Oh well....lol. You can't have it all I guess.

Now it's off to read and figure out exactly how I want to work! Thanks guys.

Nah, it works just dandy. I'm not sure about the 550EX, but I can control FEC with the Undutchables hack quite nicely on my ProMaster 7500 DX. :)

well i am getting the sigma 500 super and its got fec in it already so if the camera doesnt do it i shoul d be ok

The Waisa hack has ALWAYS had a functioning FEC even for external flashes - I have been using FEC with the Waisa hack on my 420EX for months now - great results.

It still dosen't give you the part I wanted most: Rear curtain sync.You should be able to get that with the right flash unit. My Promaster 7500DX has rear curtain sync.

I hacked my camera and couldn't be happier.

The on camera FEC is more important then the FEC on the Flash. The on camera FEC will work with ETTL where as the on the flash FEC will not.

I think that there have VERY few problems with either version of the firmware..........both of them have the major upgrades that you are looking for.........

Thanks all. I've now hacked my 300D with Wasia firmware. Whole process was dead easy and I feel like I've a new camera :D

well i am getting the sigma 500 super and its got fec in it already so if the camera doesnt do it i shoul d be ok

I bought the Rebel specifically for the Hack feature. With the hack, it definitely makes the value best bang for the buck. :)

Hurrah!! The FEC alone is worth every penny I didn't pay, it almost makes my 420EX as useful on my Drebel as it was on the Elan 7N. Plus the set program function is fantastic RAW to L-Jpeg in a few clicks awesome!! Why did I wait so long to install this?

However seeing all the Cfn. that won't activate on the hack is a bit disheartning, I remember having most of those on my Elan, it sure would be nice if Canon would release a firm wire update for the Rebel like N1k0n did for the D70 when the D70s came out. I would even consider paying Canon for it to be honest.

But I'm still very happy that we even have a 300D hack, the mirror lock up WOW, I forgot just how much I missed having it. It should be a crime to make a camera without it.

PS how do you work the AI SE (AI servo) The undutchables pdf seemed a bit unclear.

AI SE: Focus with shutter button and then left arrow and fully depress the shutter button.

i hold the shutter completely down and get my finger ready on the left button to take the picture....then you have to release the shutter completely and re-press to start focusing again..not a big deal especially since its free
