gosh, i just shot a few via remote shooting with the included canon software, and my batteries got chewed up pretty fast. just checking to see whether or not this is normal. i've got the battery grip for my Rebel XT, if that makes any difference. no problems with power before shooting so many in remote mode. thanks all. :)

i had hte XT and upgraded to a 20D... 1) remote shooting dont use any more or less power then if u were shootin normal. 2) rebel XT battery life is one of the reaons i sold the camera and got a 20D... I shot 550 picts before my battery showed any signs of being "low" .. and it still wasnt blinking telling me to change teh battery... I havent even found the NEED for teh grip, even tho i DO want it =)

Did you switch your XT to never go into standby?
I just used my XT with the IR remote shutter gizmo to shoot baby humming birds in the nest... I had to turn the camera to a non sleeping mode and yes, it did use a bit more power as the camera never shuts down.
Perhaps my 20D or cameras with a wired remote wouldn't need to be "always on" but I couldn't say. I don't have a remote for the 20D.

Yes, I notice this. Camerawindows will turn off the engery save in 350XT.

I have 2 battery in the grip and can only last for 8 hrs.

I found this to be an issue with Pocket Wizards as well. The 20D has a preset shutdown timer which will inhibit the PW's from working. I generally have to keep the remote cable switched to "Pre-Release" to always keep the camera on.

The camera won't listen to "alternate" trigger sources if the camera is shutdown.

My 20D works fine with the pocket wizards and the sleep mode, but if you are using 550ex's, don't set them in the sleep mode because the pocket wizards will not wake them up.

I just realized you must be talking about remote triggering the camera, I'm talking flashes but it still may be useful. :o)
