Okay so I have a client I am doing headshots for on Monday. A magazine is requesting one of them for a write up they are doing. I know magazines have specific requirements crop and size wise.. I just dont know what they are! He said the only thing they told him was that it needed to be 300dpi.

So my question is... Does it just need to be a vertical 8x10 crop at high resolution??? Please and thank you....

If the magazine is of any consequence at all, they'll probably have someone who does the actual formatting. I'd send un-cropped, full-res .jpg @ 300 dpi along with the invoice and let them do with it what they will.

Thank you! Okay the magazine is Wine & Spirits our of NYC and SF.... so you are probably right. The only info the sent my client is... "It doesn't need to be very large, but at least 300 dpi." So sounds like you are right. So jpg works fine then... just through reg email? Or should I do a larger file with usend it or something similar?

Another question, I normally work with very different processing colors and tones.. and I alway print without color correction because at the moment I work off of a laptop..I know I know... anyway....should that be a problem with it being printed in a mag? I know nothing of their printing. Thanks Jay!

They should have a graphics designer who will do the actually laying in of the image. Often times they modify or adapt it to their needs. Just send an 8x10 @ 300 dpi. Or whatever highest resolution you have.

Also include in your terms that you request a sheet mailed to you (or the final product, usually a complimentary copy of the magazine) to use as a tearsheet in your portfolio.
