...one where the detail of the moon remains (But the overall "brightness" of the full moon disappears), and it appears to be a flat grey colour, and one where the detail is "washed out" but the bright, "silvery-white" full moon "glow" remains, and then photoshopped them together to make one exposure where you get the detail, but also that brilliant, silvery white full moon glow?
If so, I'd love to see the results please.:)

One from several years ago (2006) where the details in the moon are one exposure while the "glow" around the moon that wraps down over the ridge in front of it as well as the cityscape are a different exposure. Simple to do with a mask but to get it to register well, you have to shoot the two frames fairly quickly 'cause that moon is moving.

Here's one I did ... not quite as extreme. I overlaid the moon detail with a very light opacity so that while you can still see some detail, it doesn't look too fake.

It's too small to see very well in the reduced-for-the-web version, but that's I did to the moon in this shot. Took the 5 shots for the pano but then realized that the moon was completely blown in the last shot so I cranked up the shutter speed and took a second shot while leaving the camera and tripod in the same position.
