I'm new on this forum and my english is sometimes not very good !:o

I got my new lens : This is a 100-400 !! :D I will shoot a lot to try it before I go in Holidays. I will post some picture in few days.

The combination is fine with the exception that AF is inactivated.
That can be an annoyance since the focus ring is at the end of the barrel. :confused:

I use a 1.4x on mine frequently. It works really well for me since I have a 1 series body and still have AF.

After days and days of thinking about it and comparing it to the Sigma 80 - 400 and 300 and 400 primes, and whether I should spend that much on a lens, I have just ordered one too :)

Keep telling myself I've done the right thing lol, if I get on well with it, I'll probably end up selling my 70 - 200 anyway as I doubt I'll use it as much.
I've read all the views on here about it so thanks for helping me to make up my mind.

I just love this lens. I was just thinking about it today: One thing I've noticed and don't hear talked about is how great a lens this is from 100-300mm. You hear about how it is slightly softer from 300-400mm and that's true (but it's still very good). But the way the comparison is always stated just doesn't do justice to how great it is from 100-300. Tack sharp, great color and contrast.

I ran across a lens comparison done at 135mm with an interesting set of lenses. The 100-400L compared favorably with the 135mm f/2 prime(thought to be maybe the best lens Canon makes). Amazing for a zoom! The 100-400L was clearly better than the 70-200 2.8IS in this test to my eye.

I'm going to take the blind test. But to me, the 70-200 2.0 IS is slightly better. Of course, both are just great :D

I got one UV filter but I don't use it always. Its true that for the first one,it would have been necessary to use it !
