I have always hesitated to open a PayPal account. I don't know why. Probably because I've read a bunch of negative things about them.
In the past, when buying and selling camera equipment, I have exchanged personal checks through the mail to handle payment. (Or done a direct, local exchange.)
But I understand that many people prefer PayPal over personal checks.
So, before setting up an account, is there anything I should be worried about?

Just link a credit card on PAYPAL. I don`t link any of my bank accounts with it.
Also, don`t apply for PAYPAL credit cards. My Paypal credit card expired and got them renewed, but they didn`t update the one on file (online) and basically, I could not use that card bec. when I log in, it says my PAYPAL credit card has expired. I called their customer service 10 times 3 consecutive days and telling me it`s fixed, but until now, it`s still 2008 expiration. I emailed them and they couldn`t do anything.. WTF? Is it hard to update my card expiration date online? I already have the replacement card and 2 years had passed and still not resolved!
Just link your VISA,MASTERCARD ETC. and it`s gonna be a smooth sailing!

My experience has been pretty positive. Have it linked to a special bank account with a CC backup. I've been using it this way for years now. You can use PayPal at quite a number of different retailers such as B&H. When I sell items on ebay the funds are placed into an online paypal account which you can withdraw but I usually have plans for it and pay for items directly from the PayPal balance on hand. It really is convenient.
You will probably want to get "Verified" which is a pretty easy process. Many individuals and retailers require this. Knock-on-wood I've not had any problems with PayPal. I've been able to update bank accounts and CC's using their online process. Have not used a PP CC however, but it seems like it should be a fairly easy process too. Maybe there is something different about updating their CC??? You WOULD think they would make it as easy as possible

i've used paypal for probably 10+ years and have never had an issue with them.
i have linked my bank account and several credit cards, with no issue. i also have the paypal debit card which is great because you can use it to instantly get cash from ATM out of your Paypal account or use it anywhere mastercard is taken.
plus you get to take advantage of things like bing cashback and other promotions!

I've been using paypal for years without an issue. Get verified and enjoy. Its nice not giving my bank account or credit card info to lots of internet retailers. I just use paypal and it seems a lot safer to me bc I minimize the amount of people that have access to my account numbers. BillMeLater is also nice for large purchases. You can get some deals like no interest for up to 6 months, etc. if your purchase of over a certain amount. Its all linked into paypal.

I've had a PayPal account for quite a few years,,in my opinion the quickest and safest money transaction method out there..
I buy heaps of gear off eBay,, most sellers prefer PayPay because the transaction is instant.. I've had only one dispute with an eBay seller because I didn't receive my item (luckily only 35 bucks worth).. I raised the issue with PayPal who stepped in for me.. I received a refund and the seller blocked from eBay..

I got a Paypal account about 10 years ago before they were owned by eBay.
I've used it countless time in 10 years, both sending and receiving money, and have not had any issue.
Quick, easy, safe IMO. The way to go.
