I've never seen a fly with fungus and even when taking this picture I couldn't see it. If you want to see images like this one and more you're welcome to my site

P.S. I used Canon PowerShot S2 iS to take this picture

It's so sharp, and I love the colors.
S2, you say? Is it cropped or resized? Did you use any additional lenses? How far were you from the subject?
I seem to be having a problem with close ups and lighting with my S2 (and I will also be looking into a macro lens, so the clarity/vibrance of your picture has me curious).

To take this picture I used AV program (not Auto) and Super Macro (wide angle). I will answer to your questions with more details later this afternoon because now I have to go back to work.

This is Metadata of my Fly image:
ISO = 50
Program = AV
Settings = Super Macro (Length 6mm - very close)
Aperture = f/2.7
Shutter speed = 1/500 sec.
No I did not use any additional lenses. To give some light to your image you have to take picture from an angle. And after you download to your computer use one of the available software i.e. Photoshop Elements to correct sharpness and lightness of your image. ;)

I agree with chemicalbro, appears to be pollen on the fly. Probably from some stinky flower that flies and beetles like.

I might agree with both of you that this is pollen but I read in a book that this is fungus and I saw a picture very similar to mine.
I want to show you 2 more of my photos.
