Greetings! Can anyone share comments on actual experiences using these two lenses and which they might prefer to use on a digital SLR? My situation is I operate a portrait studio and will be buying a 10D when it is available at me vendor. I've been film based until now and I can't wait to go digital! I'm not sure which of these two lenes I would be happier with? Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I would make it depending on your other equipment. The 28-70 is fantastic and if you have a wide angle like the 16-35 it is a very good choice, because you can get this lens realy cheap now.

If this Zoom is your first and only lens, then go for the 24-70.

I agree.
I have a 24-70 and like it . It's a little big to walk around with ( all around ) , but in a studio would be great. the 28-70 is like $300 cheaper at B&H. I've never had a 28-70 but with the cropping done by dslr's, the 4mm at the bottom probably makes a difference. I am cosidering a 14mm 2.8 or a 15-30mm 3.5-4.5 (both sigma) for wide.
Good Luck with what ever you decide on

I just ordered the 24-70/f2.8 for $1349 US. Will be using it on a pre-ordered D10.

The 28-70mm can be found here http://www.adorama.com/catalog.tpl?op=details&sid=104718007638023542&sku=CA2870AFU for around $1030 US.

The 24mm would equal 38mm because of the 1.6 chip factor
The 28mm would equal 45mm.

On a 35mm film SLR what would you rather use at the low end?

The 70mm gives you the equivalent of 112mm, very comparable to a Nikon 105mm which makes a great head shot lens.

& don't forget the Skylight filter to protect that very expensive glass..77mm size.
