Excellent photo.
If it were mine, I'd crop the guy on the left out as he looks drab compared to the 2 animated girls in the foreground......

I prefer him in for additional context, but would crop his LHS tighter, and the RHS to get rid of the tree. Unfortunately that stick on thef the RHS of the pic ruins a perfect pic

GREAT pic :D

I hate that Crop. If I had wanted to concentrate on those three I would have done so.

The pic is about people , not technique

If the picture Editor felt it needed cropping she would have done so.

Please try to see my pics in a wider context, not in a photo competition

Thank you!

Published UN cropped

But shes holding a stick... Should I clone it out? Should I have told her to drop her stick?

And its ruined my Pic??

Good Grief..

They are not from a circus. They are called the Clown Army and are a milititant Anarchist group . They can get quite Nasty and you have to look out for a flying fist or boot occasionally.
They were marching against the G8 Summit at Gleneagles the other week.

yes definitely - you should have asked her politely to either put the stick down , or beat the clown next to her with it

No it hasn't ruined your pic,I meant the pic was PERFECT otherwise. I was trying to give constructive criticism not condemn your pic,

Phil, I like the original best. It sometimes drives me CRAZY that everyone wants to alter real life to get the perfect picture. I would much rather have it original and a little "imperfect". Keep up the good work.

Thanks Maureen

The picture was framed that way for a reason. You dont have minutes to set up a picture . They were 'shushing ' for a couple of seconds , I saw the shot and grabbed it. Was I worried about a tree in the background? or a stick in someones hand? I dont think so.
Why should someone edit my pictures and repost them? particularly one that has been published full frame?

I sincerely apologise and have removed my post of your pic.
It was done in the spirit of constructive criticism and my assumption that you wanted that, as so many others have, was wrong. My enthusiasm got the better of me.

I didn't realise you would take offence

I didnt take offense , Im fairly new to this site and I was surprised thats all that my pictures were edited without permission- If its normal practise I wasnt aware of that-

No harm done I shall shut up now.:)

No - you're right - permission should have been requested, not presumed upon.

I think the original is terrific. The eyes on the clowns draw my attention. Two appear to be looking right at the camera and two are looking elsewhere but not the same elsewhere. It must have been an interesting situation and a bit nerve wracking based on the comments about them being prone to violence. You've captured it quite well I think. I've always wondered what folks like this do for a living.....besides protest, which can't be very lucrative.

I agree that photos like this don't need to be cropped. They are showing what happened and not trying to entirely be 'artistic.' There's no way you can be thinking about all the finer details of composition when you only have seconds to capture the right moment.

I was wondering where most of the protestors for the G8 summit are from? Were there a lot of Scots there or did people come from all over?
