This weekend I'll be heading to the drags. I'll be dragging the DRebel and the Canon 25-135 IS lens with me. I'm wondering if I can get a few pointers on shooting these fast cars. I'm assuming a fast shutter speed but am wondering about Fstop and such. Not planning on doing any panning, just shooting the cars during burn-outs and launches.......

This might help you: http://photoworkshop.com/canon/ It has quick lessons on blurring, panning or shutter speeds. Hope it helps!

1. Try setting Custom Function 4 to 1 to put the focus on the * button. You can then focus on the starting line and just fire away. Or you can pick a spot further down the track, focus on it and take the picture when the cars reach that spot.

2. Watch your histogram and maybe play around with the exposure compensation.

3. Experiment with a small aperature (larger number) and a longer shutter speed to create a motion effect (you will need a tripod for this).

Ive been using Tv (shutter priority) mode with ok results. I use between 640 and 1000 shutter speed and let the camera pick the f stop. When i was at the track this past weekend there were 2 other people with 20d's and i asked what settings they used. One guy told me full auto and the other used Tv mode w/ a 500 shutter speed.

Thanks for the tips! I shot out there last year with the same camera but I think everything was on auto. Ended up losing the pics a week later when the laptop crashed. I'll see what I can get and post up here!
