I just purchased a 20D with lens, I payed 1347.00 after rebate. Did I pay too much?
I also payed 120.00 for 3 years extended warranty from Circuit City.

I also purchased a battery grip, and a 1 GIG Sandisk Ultra II CF. any suggestions on a good memory card?

Is there different battery grips for the 20D, I heard there are alot of problems with the Canon battery grip.

Thanks. Paul

You did fine. What lens did you get? If you got the 18-55 that's a good price.
I paid about the same as you did for my second one and sold the 18-55 lens that it came with. The rebate should take $100 off too!

I just bought one last week from Ritz Camera for $1349 body-only before rebate so it would be $1249 after rebate. Was yours body-only or did you get a lens with it?

You paid $7 too much. :) Price seems OK to me. Where did you buy?

Personally I never buy extended warranties. I try and buy a quality product and believe the problems, if any, will happen in the first months. If you bought it on an Am. Express Card you would have gotten an extra year.

I bought a Sony TV about 20 years ago and it's still working. I remember them pressuring me to buy an extended warranty. Didn't.

Recently I had a microwave fail during warranty and the lamp on my Sony LCD TV.

The only time an extended warranty would have helped me was a VW bus that expired just past the "goodwill warranty" at 60K from some defective valve materials. However, I don't thing extended warranties were much of an item in the 70's.

The 18-55 lens came with it. I got it at Circuit City. I have 30 days to get a better price from a local store and they will match it.

You did fine. The only thing you might have considered was to get the 18-55 with the USM motor instead of the "basic" one. They are a little more, not sure if anyone has done any testing to determine if there is a noticeable improvement. All my other lenses are USM so that is what I got when I went from the Rebel to the 20D. Your battery grip may or may not be the "newer" one with the "fix". I bought my 20D about a month ago and the battery grips had been back ordered by B&H for a couple of months due the "fix" issue. It just can in yesterday from them, so I've gotten one of the first factory upgraded ones for sure. It can always be sent back to them if you have problems. Check it out so if you need to return it you can do it easier now than several years from now.

I bought my 20D a month ago from www.ibuydigital.com (http://www.ibuydigital.com). They had one of the best ratings and indeed they've lived up to their reputation. I paid $1249 (after rebate) with 18-55mm lens kit with no tax.

I also bought the batt grip with additiona battery and ultra II 1Gb card.

In regards to a retail store price, I think your price was pretty good but the downside is the sales tax.

Hope this helps....

You didn't pay too much, that's a decent price. I just paid $1469 for mine with the "USM" lens ($1349 after rebate) at B&H. The Circuit City price was within $30 or so of the B&H price, I just wanted the USM lens and got the added bonus of not having to pay taxes online.

Also, look at it this way: you bought the camera from a reputable dealer and got to take it home with you the same day. I won't see mine until Friday (if I am lucky), and I am feeming for it, the anticipation alone is going to make the next two days the longest of my life!:(

I returned my 20D with 18-55 lens to circuit city, and purchased from B&H Photo, with the money I saved from no taxes and the 3yr warrenty I dropped, I was able to get the 20D with the 17-85 lens for a few hundred more.

Thanks for all the advice, I should get my Camera on Monday.

Any advice on useful accessories?

glad you made a wise choice to return the unit to circuit city. i've also poked around these retail stores quite a bit before i bought (circuit city, bestbuy, fry's, etc.) and none of them could match within $100 of repuatable online stores like ibuydigital, B&H, Abe's, etc...

B&H is richly stocked....good choice....as for accessories, you may want to look into a firewire or USB card reader and a good mono/tripod :)
