Here are a few select images from a Time Trial I was at yesterday in Sandy Hook, NJ.

Beautiful color and crispness. I think the rocket in the background of the first two shots is a bit distracting.

It's been my experience to include some background from the venue in at least some of the photos in my galleries. If I don't, by the end of the cycling season I'll have 70,000 photos that all look exactly the same.

The missles in the background are what identifies this particular venue. My customers seem to like it- they have bought a **** load of photos from this event so far. Typically, I make the most money from this event than any other race during the season. It's because of the missles my friend.

+1 Aesthetically the missiles do distract from the subject (cyclist), but I agree 100%, you've got to try and 'place' the rider at that particular event, and that's not always easy. Those panning blur shots can only get you so far. ;) My next race has 29 miles of country road with 1 mile of brick pavement. Guess where I'll be parked?

The brick pavement, LOL.

Talking about panning blur shots- I tried something new for the first time. I used a 3-stop ND filter. Without, you lower the shutter speed down to 1/60th-1/80th and even at ISO 100, your aperture winds up being something ridiculous like f/16. This is at ISO 100, 1/80th, f/5.6:
