I just went and snapped about 25 pictures and posted a few of them. Do these images look sharp and etc..? 100% cropped.

Great shots ... you didn't waste much time, right?
I really like the blackbird ... he has that certain 'don't-mess-with-me' look
Best regards,
Andy

Jim, congratulations on your new lens - I really hope you enjoy it.
If everybody that bought a new lens asked whether it was sharp, it would be a very boring forum. If you can't tell, then please don't buy any more lenses – I can't take it any more!!!

I ain't smart, does what? and natural fibres rule!!!
No offence Jim, but you buy the best lenses and MUST know they are the business. At least try to find a different angle - ie is this a good picture of a duck etc. I am still in thereapy over the 24-70 lens saga!!!!!!!!!!
Grum the sheep.

Its a great lens that doesn't get the attention that it deserves since most people go for the zooms. I would never give mine up.

If it is your ability as a photographer that you are enquiring about, then there is a whole section on 'photo sharing'. If you have a lens question, this is the correct forum. I would happily judge the photo in another section, but get frustrated when I look at this section as it is about lenses. I want to know which lens to buy next, not whether Jim can take a good photo.
I don't want to seem like a whinger, but you had a more than fair run over the 24-70 lens issue. I kind of feel alone in expressing this, so it it isn't mentioned again, I will shut up. Maybe it's me.

Blue Max -- Go graze!!!!!! No one is forcing you to read the post!! YOUR CHOICE NOW and BEFORE .. Also by looking at images a lens takes can help you make a decision on a new lens.. RIGHT? Thank you for shutting up,,,, Have a good day!:)
PS: To bad we do not have a forum here for disgruntle photographers!

Hmmmm....
Now everybody please take a deep breath and read the forum rules (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/rules.php), especially the section '4. Don't be a jerk'
We don't want to get the thread locked, do we?
Best regards,

Agreed Andy -- Sorry I just thought he was not being very nice. Jimmy
When a POST is MOVED what does that mean and where does it go? The bit bucket?
Andy_T

Normally to a more suitable location.
If you think that the 'big bucket' might be a more suitable location

Andy

If anyone thinks I have been rude, insulting or indeed a jerk, I will unreservedly apologise. I do try to be none of those things, but it can certainly come across as such.
I made my point and as I said, that is the end of it.

I agree with Blue. I don't mean to be rude, but the "Is this sharp?" questions really are a shame and annoying. This current post (about the 200 f/2.8) is NOT an example of this. IMO, this post is a "this is my new lens! Check out the first images!" post.
The repeated "Is this sharp?" and then "Ok, well how about this one" are the ones that are ridiculous.
Just my $.02.

Blue, cdhender. You're not alone.
When I read, "is this sharp?", I thought, "Dear Lord, not again..."
Sorry if that's being rude.
..now, back to our regular programming 8-)

gee I'm with you 120% on that one. Did you get the personal message "is my lens sharp" too ?
And no, i don't do the "if you are not interested don't read" this is what spammer says to explain overloading our attention with sh*t.
I am *mightlitly interested* in the 200 f2.8. I don't want to have to dissect the header to realize that actualy it's just another one of these "is my super expensive lens sharp?"
If the OP can actualy get way with spending that money and doesn't know enough to tell if if's a good lens or not, why the h*ll buy it ? practice with a cheapo 200mm zoom, and when you are reasonably happy, upgrade.

I'm not a bird expert, but the blackbird's beak looks sharp (comes to a point at the end) and the duck's beak looks significantly more rounded.
best way to take sharp photos, is, after you print'em, roll the print up into a cone shape and bring to a tapered point.
does that help anybody? if it did, I apologize.

Whoa! Let's hear about the lens! Those pictures are what have me interesting in the 200mm f2.8L. It appears to be a great value, and most of my wildlife photos are of larger critters. My El Cheapo was an experiment that makes OK snapshots, but when you want detail, like the duck's feathers, it turns the image to mush.
I expect to order the 200 in the next few days. Anyone have an opinion on the extended warranties that are available? Should I be concerned?

Hi! Dale .. It is a great lens -- I have only had it for 2 days but so far I have not complaints -- It is great! Good price. If you have any questions feel free to ask me, Jimmy
