Would like to see EXIF Data. They appear to be soft and dark on my monitor. Plus the first two have too much dead space...

Any PP on these??

Thanks for sharing Andrew, #1 needs a tighter crop and #2 seems to have a lot going on, They too seem a tad dark to me but could of been lighting in the arena, Were you shooting these through the glass ?

Yes it was through the glass and yes it was dark had the ISO up to 1600 and was only getting 1/640th wide open on a 70-200 2.8

Andrew:

Not sure what is going on but I agree with others about softness and darkness. I recently shot a game at our ECHL rink (HERE (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=851277)) and it was at 1600 ISO and 1/640 and f3.2 and all through glass. I'd think your AHL rink would have similar lighting?? If not, don't be afraid to bump up to 2000 or 2500 ISO if you can (were these with 7D?). Or do some bump up of exposure in post processing.

Oh and 1/640 is plenty of shutter speed for hockey. In fact I can get away with 1/400 in dark arenas. I'd love to shoot at 1600ISO and 1/640 all the time!!

Thanks for your response, Like Christian said what you shot at should be somewhat ideal for Hockey than, I shoot all my Red Wings pictures at 1600ISO and between 1/640th and 1/800th since I don't use strobes. Defantly keep at it, What method did you use to edit these pictures ?

I shoot at 1/400 f/2.8 ISO 1600 in Rockford. Place is a dungeon for AHL standards, plus the cycling lights like to throw off any set WB.

Its definitely a tough place to shoot ,different lighting throughout the place , Here is a couple more maybe these are better . I shoot RAW and process in CS4. I think if I shot more Hockey I would get it right before to long ....hopefully lol. I only did one game this year ,but it sure is fun

The last two look better, Hockey is one of those sports that takes multiple outings get better and better, my first few attempts were ugly, Hang in there.

Have to look me up next time you are shooting there, Andrew. I shoot all the games in Rockford, and the MC is a tough place to shoot, as Chris pointed out. I usually have my exposure compensation +1, ~2500 ISO, 1/500, 3.2. Shooting with 7D+ 70-200 2.8IS. The corners are dark and they don't do a super job cleaning the glass, so I usually ask someone for some glass cleaner at the game. I'll be bringing my own cleaning supplies to the playoff games and doing it myself between periods.

I don't have my shots finished from the Milwaukee game yet, but here are some from the night before against the Monsters:

Also, shooting their black jerseys is harder than the white or reds. I always sigh a bit when I see them coming out in the black sweaters even though I prefer the look of them. Just harder to shoot!
