I have an A1100IS and am trying to get decent photos of puppies. It is next to impossible to get a shot when they are perfectly still. I can get a fairly decent "stop frame" at 1600 or 3200 ISO but it is so grainy it is unuasable. Is there any way around this problem?
Thanks

If you can post one of your shots, someone will surely diagnose your problem.......

1) Light
2) Light
3) More light

I'm not familiar with your camera, but if it has a hotshoe, an external, diffuse/bounced flash can only help.

Or (my preference) increase the amount of natural light present...... Even better, go outside if you can.

Even the presumed on-board flash should suffice, if it goes with a shutter speed of 1/100sec. What lens? What shooting mode? Are you getting sharp images of still objects under the same puppy conditions? Do the puppies ever sleep? :) Don't give up. Send pics.

LIGHT, LIGHT, and MORE LIGHT was the answer. ISO at 3200, outside in bright sun, images VERY sharp.

;) Glad to help - though Iso 3200 does seem a trifle high

Deci is correct. you shouldn't need an iso of 3200 and bright sun to have sharp images...your camera either syncs at a shutter speed of 200/250, depending on the camera model, and with flash, you should easily be able to stop the motion of squirming puppies indoors. I have to assume you aren't using flash...
