View Full Version : License to resell a photo

I shoot youth sports and I've had someone ask me about buying a photo of mine, them doing some PS work on it (adding the soccer club's logo, etc.), and then reselling it back to parents. I normally sell the original digital copies for personal use for $20. If this person is wanting to resell a photo after doing some value added work to it, how much should I charge?

Does anyone have the wording on a "license to resell" agreement? I use SmugMug and the only two licenses are for personal use and commercial use. Both prohibit reselling the photo. I have disabled the commercial use on all of my photos since I'm not sure it applies here (they do not want to sell the photo for advertisement).

Before anyone asks, I don't want to do the PS work myself right now. I have enough to do.

Thanks for any advice!

Glenn

I would want at least 50% of what this other person expects to make off the venture.

Maybe (# of kids on the team) * $10
Personal copy for all the parents with a 50% bulk discount?

I would imagine that one could re-sell a "used" print much in the same way one can sell their copy of a used CD or DVD. I would also imagine they could probably... though this doesn't seem the same thing... re-sell a digital copy of a photo. Not sure about that last one.

However, putting logos and other stuff on it strikes me as them presenting it as their own original work, and it's not. At least not entirely. Thus, they'd have to get agreement from you... with proper compensation, of course.

Put the logo on yourself and add some $ to it

I don't think that's an option for the OP :-)
