I received a phone call the other day from a local pro photographer who was my instructor in a weekly class spnsored by the local fine arts organization. He is currently removing some of his pieces that have been on display at a new restaurant in my home town, and he thought of me as a replacement for some wall art!
I am flattered by his confidence in me and nervous at the same time. I have been going through my hard drive trying to pick out 5 or 6 pieces that I can have printed at an 11 x 14, matted and framed ready for display. I have several shots of local landmarks that i thought might work, but it is a very trendy, high style type environment and i am worried this might not be appropriate. I also have several abstracts that I am particularly fond of, but I also understand that abstracts are not to everyone's taste.
Besides having questions about the subject matter, there is the actual presentation to consider. I was thinking of black metal or plastic frames with a double matt for all my pieces. I can pick these up very inexpensively at a local craft store and have a matted, framed 11 x 14 print done for under $20.00. I think they look fine this way, but I don't want to give the impression that they are cheap. Because of the inexpensive costs involved, I was thinking of pricing them acordingly ($50.00 to $60.00 apiece).
I want to make a good impression, but I am on a tight deadline and may not have time to have them professionally matted and framed (at a much higher cost) and would have to raise the price accordingly.
Any thoughts about my quandry? I am vaery excited !
