This is starting to drive me nuts. Once I remove a CF card from my computer, I cannot read it again (or another one) without rebooting the computer.
I download images from my CF card by placing the CF card in the multi card reader that came with my vista computer. Everything works well the first time I read the card -- after a reboot. My problem is, that after I remove the card, I cannot read it again w/out rebooting. This is driving me nuts. Has anyone had this issue and solved it? Are others having it and living with it?
The problem, I think, is that the CF card reader is accessed by the multi card reader via USB. When Vista tries to unmount the device, it is attempting to unmount the USB adapter directly (like a USB thumb-drive) but the USB adapter is still there, and vista gets confused.
I have tried without success:
Using different settings in the device manager (e.g., Optimize for performance and/or quick removal).
Using the 'Safely Remove Hardware' feature (which tries to remove the entire multi card reader... which won't remount when I put the card back.
Using the 'eject' option after right clicking on the drive.
Placing a different CF card reader into a USB port and trying from there... this also fails.No matter what I try, once I remove the CF card, my computer will not recognize it without a reboot. At this point, the next thing I am thinking about trying is a mac.
Any other suggestions?
