I've had my DRebel for about 2 months now and recently wanted to take some pics using my old Sunpak flash (auto433AF/CA). I was shooting indoors just doing some pics of family and friends. Everything I tried was way to much light(looked over exposed) so I just ended up using the built in flash. I could bounce the Sunpac off the ceiling but had to point it almost straight up. Is this fllash not compatible? Or am I doing something wrong. I deleted all the pics so I don't have any to post. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? That flash unit is probably (I would say definitely but am not sure) not compatible with the camera. In addition, if you have a 300D (the original Digital Rebel), the flash unit could possibly destroy the circuits in the camera that make the flash fire. The "sync" voltage must be under 6 volts DC for the 300D camera. The 20D and 350D (the new Digital Rebel design) can stand higher sync voltages, but the communication to the flash unit is still critical to allowing the automatic exposure control to function.

There are a couple of units other than Canon that work like Canon flash units, but I am unfamiliar with them. The Canon xxxEX family is what is designed to work with the EOS family of cameras. This includes the 420EX, 550EX, and 580EX to the best of my knowledge.
