It's the "artistic angles"- on one shot you've got the pic angled 45 degrees clockwise, and the next 45 degrees counter clockwise, and the ropes accentuate that point. Seriously, I find them difficult to look at because they make me hight-headed.

Is it acceptable to crop those ropes out?

I was thinking about that crop before I saw it & it works MUCH better. I've seen the angled stuff with the cage & I've had debates on if it works well with ropes or not. For these, I too feel like its giving me a headache. But I still think you got some good action there.
