I was cruising around the web looking at photos and came around a photo by Jim Brandenburg. He took his 1Ds and pointed it at the North star for 13 hours overnight causing a circular star pattern to form.

I would like to replicate the photo but in my yard. I have a 300D with a remote shutter control. So my question is, Is the 300D capable of taking a 13 hour exposure with the shutter lock and a dc power source so that camera doesn't shut off? Or does that camera automatically end the photo after a certain about of time.

Welcome to POTN :)

The answer to this question is "try it and see". Connect the shutter cable, lock it open, and if it doesn't shut off after 5 minutes the chances are it'll stay open until you close it.

According to the instruction manual for the 300D (p. 79), "With a fully-charged battery, a single bulb exposure can be as long as about 2.5 hours."

So presumably you could go longer with a power adapter, though from what I've read, you will run into some serious problems with digital noise in the image.

I agree with Tim. Try it! Let us know how it turns out.

i will try it the next time I'm back at home...right now i'm living in a large metro area so you just can't see the stars like my parents house.
