Hello everyone,
Not sure if this is appropriate for this forum, but I figured shooters usually know the most beautiful spots in almost any area, I'd take a shot.
My girlfriend and I are planning a trip at the end of this month to San Diego. However, she doesn't know that I'm planning on proposing to her on the trip. We have a nice hotel booked in La Jolla and the ring has been designed and is being made as we speak.
My problem at the moment is finding the perfect location/method to propose. I know the beaches are always a good choice, but I want something fairly memorable. I want to avoid restaurants if possible, as they are usually fairly crowded. I also want to avoid boats (she gets seasick easily). But anything else, I'm willing to consider!
I may also want to hire a San Diego photographer to possibly capture the moment. If anyone has done this or recommend anyone who has, please let me know.
Thanks,
Rich

It's a bit public, but Balboa Park or the San Diego Zoo are the first places that come to mind for me...
Since you have a hotel in La Jolla, there's the Children's Pool which is now home to a colony of Harbor Seals...

A very good location is Presidio Park above Old Town. It is used by a lot of wedding photogs. There's a nice pergola there. A second good location is around the Spreckles Organ columns in Balboa Park. A third good location is Wind and Sea Beach. Actually, everywhere you look in San Diego there's a good location! Contact me direct if you have any questions.

I would go take a look rock area, towards the right of the seal resting area. Lots of places to enjoy the view, but it's a bit tricky to walk down, especially due to the sand. I did see an entire wedding party taking photos there so it can't be that bad. :)

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'll be checking these out on the internet before we head over.

Check out the area around the old Point Loma lighthouse.
It's less crowded there, has a view of San Diego and is absolutely fantastic during sunset.
Of course, if you propose in La Jolla or Balboa Park, there will be restaurants much closer to celebrate afterwards.

in2str beat me. Point Loma is beautiful.
Being the cornball that I am, I'd go with one of the Balboa Park museums, because [your line to her] "this is moment worth preserving."

Yeah, sometimes I have to rough it when the Nikon guys won't talk to me.

I'd love to speak to a fellow POTN member to possibly shoot the "moment." A few snaps would be priceless and I would be willing to pay for the time. If anyone is interested, or could recommend anyone, please send me a PM.

I think that would be totally cool. Don't tell her of course and then go to one of these spots mentioned, where it's totally normal to see guys with cameras. Have someone from this board approach you and say "hey guys, can I take your pictures? Maybe one where he goes on one knee and gives you a ring in front of the skyline?"
:D
Anyway, give Bobby Earle a call or PM him. His work is fantastic:

Good luck! And best wishes!

This is an awesome idea. If I lived there I'd do it for you for nothing just so I could be there.
BTW.. Congrats!!
