I am itching to upgrade my 10D to 20D.
I mostly take my grandchildren's photos and use PS CS to enhance them.
Is is worth to go the upgrade path and what do you think it will cost me.
Thanks

If you want to upgrade go for it the 20D is a great camera. Do you need to upgrade no one knows but you but probobly not tho. It would cost what ever you pick your 20D up for minus what you sell your 10D for :)

That's the right answer. Just a friendly suggestion, though......do a side by side comparison of the two cameras and decide if the 20D is really worth another $600-700 because that's what it's going to cost. You're getting an extra 2 megapixels and some improved performance, but the two cameras are otherwise very similar.
Also remember that a Rebel XT is going to cost you around $400 less than the 20D, and it might be all the camera you need.

In my opinion, there is still to be released a camera that compares to the Canon 10D for proper color reproduction.
I started with the D60. Still kick myself in the ass for trading it for the 300D, that I sold 30 days later. The D60 is the Velvia of Canon's digital SLRs. The 10D is the most exposure and color accurate camera I own.
I would give a body part or two to have the 10D color/exposure brain along with the speed of the 1DMKII and 20D cameras my company lives by these days.
Keep your 10D.

For taking pictures of your grandchildren - No - I don't think it would be worth your spending a lot of money to upgrade to a 20D unless you're a bit of a gadget freak like me and just want a change.
You can easily check prices for new 20D's and advertise your 10D but I very much doubt whether you'll get as much for it as you might imagine. You don't say what lens or lenses you have but remember that, if you do sell your 10D, you'll do so more easily with a lens, in which case you may then need to buy another for your 20D.
Please let us know what you decide.
Regards, David :)

For some reason my wife wants to know which part you'd part with??????????
MSVIRICK, my answer is NO. While I've just received my 20D, and love it, for what your using it for the, 10D is just right. The only reason I upgraded was that I just plain wore out my 10D plus I needed the extra frames per second. I will still hold on to my 10D as a very adequete back up. I'm sending it in tomorrow to have the shutter replaced.

The fact that your wife is interested can be attributed to a healthy curiosity. The fact that I was considering asking the same question should be a concern to us all. :o

I was thinking of trading the body and keep the lenses.

I just got an indicator of what the value of a used 10D is earlier today. My local camera store has a used 10D with a 17-40L on it, and he's asking $800. I'm seriously thinking of throwing a $700 offer at him just to see what happens. The lens is worth probably $500. He also has a used D30 for a couple hundred dollars.....maybe it was $300.

Wow..the body is than only worth about $200 to $300. DSLRs seem to depreciate badly

This is what happens when the latest and greatest are released every year or so.

With a 17-40L on it? Buy it, and re-sell the two pieces independently. The lens regularly fetches $575-600 on Fred's B&S if it's in good condition and has caps and hood.
Also, I see 10D's moving around $600 - 750 depending on condition, accessories, and packaging.

If you look online most are selling for atleast double that. I'd love to be able to pay 200 or 300 for a 10D body.

The $200-300 price was for a D30 not a 10D. This was Canon's first in the current DSLR family. A good camera for its time, but lacking in performance to the 10D or 20D. I still have my D30 and will not get rid of it because it has no real resale value. Keep the 10D unless you are getting that burning in your pocket.

A reply to "RFMSports" you say "In my opinion, there is still to be released a camera that compares to the Canon 10D for proper color reproduction." Doesn't the 300D use the same digic chip as the 10D why would the 10D have better proper color reproduction then a 300D.
