Hi all
I am considering buying a macro lens and am wondering if it could double up for taking portrait photos. If so it that would make the lens more versitile for me and justifiable in buying the lens instead of possibly looking at lenses. I have narrowed it down to either a Canon 100mm macro or the new sigma 150mm macro, any example photos of portait shots with any of these two lens or any other would be greatful. Thanks for the imput:)

150mm is probably too long. I took this photo (http://www.mrwild.co.nz/Featured/Models/slides/IMG_9336.html) with the 100mm macro, it came out great, it's an incredibly sharp lens.

I have the 100mm Canon macro, its a nice lens, should have a red stripe on it. But it may be a bit long for a portrait lens on your 20D.
Depending on what you are try to achieve, I would look at the Canon 50mm f1.4 or 85mm f1.8 or f1.2L. The 50mm f1.4 can create some very nice bokeh, where the 85mm f1.8 has some very sharp optics, but not that great in the bokeh dept. Then there is the 85mm f1.2L, if you have the cash, get this lens.

I reread your post, get the Canon 100mm macro. It will get the job done, but may be a bit long in close quarters.

Thats a great looking shot, your right thats a nice sharp lens, and i think that what you said about the 150mm would be too long. Was that taken on tripod or hand held?

The 50mm f1.4 is another lens on my list which will be after the macro and once the flat line on my bank account hits a couple of highs . Then theres the wife;)!!!! . Man its hard to jugle the bank account and the wife  and to keep the two in check.

Hand held. We were just getting started and I saw the shot, so I took it from wherever I happened to be, which was somewhere near the floor.
