Hi guys anyone here from Hong Kong or recently purchased a 350D lenskit in Hong Kong. Can you give me an idea on how much you paid for the kit and where you bought it (store name and location)?
Many Thanks

Avoid shops who also sell used products. Cases can be found that they may sell used products as new but give you receipts and warranty card like new.
You can only recognize it is being used when you take it back to the original manufacturers who knew that someone else had registered the product.

I've been to HK 3 times (business and pleasure) for the past few months and kept checking out the prices of dig cameras (SLRs especially). On the average, the price is a bit higher than US prices. Only grey market items were cheaper but the risk is yours to take.
You may think prices would be lower since there's no sales tax but that's not the case. The drop in US dollar is also a contributing factor to a higher price.
Take the 20D for example, I cannot find a price lower than $12,000HKD (7.8 is about the exchange rate) when I was last there in May.

As pointed out by Accord Mah Shing and Wing Shing (same family) are really the 2 places you should consider when buying camera equipment in HK. Expect to pay no less then HK$7,500 from a reputable seller for a 350D. Being a new model, and as mentioned above, HK prices are generally a tad more expensive than the US. They only tend to become cheap well into the product cycle. The US may be the same in this regard??
The risks of being stung by unreputable sellers in the tourist areas in Causeway Bay or TST is far too high i.e. grey/damaged/wrong model/refurbished etc products. Their in store testing and returns policy coupled with the deep discounts offered scream scam. Avoid any stores that don't list in store prices.
The address for Wing Shing is:
G/F 91-95 Fa Yuen Street
Mongkok
Tel: 2396 6885
Fax: 2191 5916
Wing Shing is a general electronics store with about 40% photo equipment. Mah Shing is purely Pro SLR and about 2/3 minutes walk from Wing. They are honest and have a very strong reputation in HK. Accordingly they don't need to offer huge discounts. Bargaining is fruitless, Mah Shing rarely move from their listed price although Wing Shing may knock off a couple of hundred HKDs or throw in some sweetners e.g. slow 1gb memory card, bag or a crap tripod. They do offer a refund policy so if you strike out with the product you will be able to return, however, expect to argue your case a little as I have found. If you speak little or no Cantonese try and get a friend to go with you to ease the negotiation. If you need contact details for one for the senior sales guys PM me. He won't give any offers until you get there though.
All in all for piece of mind I would say approach Wing or Mah Shing. I've shopped from them a number of times for various products and have always come away satisfied. If they're too far off the beaten track then you can be relatively safe at the big electronics chains - fortress, broadway et al

I have seen it listed for around HKD equivanlent of US$1000 in the bigger shops for body+kit lens and if I am right, comes with a 512mb card. These are two large chains - fortress and broadway. You can typically get something added on top - like a cheapo camera bag or some extra.

Fortress (a big electronics chain) is selling the kit at HKD$7650 incl 512 mb card, camera bag and tripod. I bought mine with just the kit lens for $6750 (it is not grey market) at a smaller store in Times Square. I've heard you can also get this price in some stores in Central as well. Without the kit lens, the price is a little over $6000 but I can't recall the exact number. BTW I also got a LCD screen protector and tripod at that price.

Slightly off original topic, but I'm going to Hangzhou in a couple of weeks. Any recommendations of items that ARE a good buy? I have a Rebel XT and am just starting my collection of goodies for it.
Thanks.
