Well I ended up buying an infrared filter, the B+W 092 37mm for my s30, and it works great! If anyone's interested, here are some quick photos I've taken with it:

Strange. Tried to click the link and it shows me a new page with tripod picture on it. Tried to go to your website but I can only find car related website. Anyone able to check the photos?

Sorry! I forgot that tripod won't let you directly link images, the page for the images is at this address:

Sorry for the mistake, hope you enjoy!

They are fantastic pictures; I didn't know you could take
IR pics with a powershot s30...! Can you do the same with
an A40?

Thanks for the compliments Jon! I use the ckcpower adapter to hook the lens up to the s30. The hot mirror inside the camera makes it harder to take IR shots, but is easily compensated by increasing the shutter speed to around 2 seconds.

As for the A40, I would bet that it would be able to handle IR photos as well - a test you can try is pointing a remote control at the lens, and if you can see the IR light in the LCD screen, your camera should be able to do infrared!

There are lots of resources on the web for infrared photgraphy on digital cameras. This page: http://www.pauck.de/marco/photo/infrared/infrared.html has lots of links, or just go to google and search for "infrared digital camera".

BTW, the stories of using unexposed but developed E6 film as an IR-passing filter are quite true. Works well with my S100.

I've been experimenting with the A40 and was wondering if anyone had any hints for focusing problems. I've posted some of my trials at http://www.paulgraham.ca/pictures/eIR/

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Paul!

Nice pictures! I just saw your gallery after emailing you - I think part of the problem may be the 3.2 second shutter speed. If there is any wind or vibration, the camera will definitely pick it up with such a long shutter speed, maybe try reducing the shutter speed and re-shooting on a very bright day? Or is it simply that the camera is not focusing correctly?

Haven't been on this forum for months, but just read your post &
tried the remote with my A40 and it works, nice one!

Then I just scrolled down & found Paul Graham's post which
would have told me straight away it was possible. Doh :)
(great pics by the way!)
