what are the optics like on this lens and why isnt it heard of as much as the 100-400mm cause it seems much more versitile at a cheaper price.

ok so they say the optics and speed aren't quite on par with the 100-400mm but compared to a consumer lens ie. 100-300mm USM they would bet it hands down right?

yes it is the 35-350mm lens im talking about just a typo in the title

I believe the 35-350 has been replaced by a 28-300 f3.5-5.6L IS USM available for a cool £1667 in the UK!

WHAT. you can get the 35-350mm for $900 au of ebay. it doesn't have th IS obviously though. so does that mean the 35-350mm is a discontined line.

Yes, the 35-350mm L was replaced by the 28-300mm L.
