Hi,
I'm currently using my 300D with an old 28-80mm USM lens, but would really like a wider view. I can't afford anything like a 17-85MM IS (though I'd love one), so am currently thinking about 2 solutions

1) Get a kit lens for the wider end, and use my current lens for most of the time.
2) Get a Tokina 19-35 3.5-4.5 and a Canon 50mm f1.8 and sell my current lens along with my old EOS 1000FN body.

These are both assuming I'll be buying secondhand.

Discuss.

Whats your budget?

the Sigma 18-125 appears to be ok but I havn't seen/used one myself.

I don't have a fixed budget, but as low as possible! I've heard / seen very mixed reviews of the 18-125 - it would be an ideal lens, but there are so many bad examples, plus I'm buying secondhand, so can't even go to Jessops and try some until I find a good one :(

I think option 2 is pretty safe. The kit lens seems capable of decent results in the right hands and you can pick them up for £60-70 via ebay. Would do a stop gap wide-ish.
