This was a welcoming hug received by a member of the 1544th Transportation Unit on his return from Iraq. (I was covering this for our local newspaper.) This National Guard unit was attacked in Iraq and lost several members, so it was truly a joyful homecoming.

Thanks! This was a really emotional moment for our little town of 3500. School was dismissed early, and people lined the streets along the parade route for several miles waving flags and cheering. When the parade stopped in front of the courthouse, everyone just ran out to the guys and gals and started crying and hugging them. There wasn't a dry eye among us!

I spent July 4 at a family reunion and one couple brought along an unrelated a young mother and her two small children. The husband is in Iraq for some months yet. I think your image says it all. The stress of those left behind is high and giving personal support to families still waiting makes such a difference. If anyone wants to help military families, cnsider sending a donation to Fisher House, the military version of the McDonald House. http://www.fisherhouse.org/

Looks like a very emotional moment. Is that a reflection, or is His eye a bit moist? ;) Nice to see happy shots like this. :D

Everyone's eyes were moist that day! It was truly wonderful to have these guys from our county home safe again. Sadly, one of the boys did not make it, leaving a wife and small child.
Thank you all for your kind comments.

Thanks for all your comments! :)
Abigail- Does Coke have a military-themed ad campaign? I seldom watch television, so I wasn't sure. Hmmm! Maybe you're on to something here! :) :) :)
