I'm attending this weekend event for the Redline Time Attack in my friend's crew. I currently do not own a telephoto lens, but wanted to see if anyone been there before and are there any press box/area that is close to the track or what kind of lens would I need. My longest lens is the 85mm (~135mm on crop).

I've been there. There are three different tracks, I think, so it depends which one you'll be on. I think Thunderbolt is where I've shot. Very easy access, especially for lightly attended events. The best approach is to NOT stay in a press box but walk around the fenced track. You're much closer to the track that way. I work with a 5D2 and a 100-400 and find that I typically want to back down to 250 or so. Your 85 will behave like a 135 on your 7D which is a little short, but you might crop your way down from there. You'd do well to get a 200mm IS lens somehow.

You can see some sample images of later models from a vintage race I attended there last year. Walk around the entire circuit for a nice variety of looks.
