well, I'm taking a vacation in a couple of weeks and felt like getting a new lens to go along.

this shot, with the EFS 10-22 at 10mm, wide open, shows the properties of extreme wide angle lenses that make them so much fun to use -- spatial distortion, incredible depth of field, and preferential magnification of closer objects. It also shows that my best friend is very patient with my hobby.

very cool lens. I like the sharpness, color and flare resistance, and it's very lightweight for such a wide angle.

Hey! Nice Lens -- Did you roll up a piece of film into a cone shape, until it comes to a point, to get that sharpness in the picture? It looks a little soft to me.

Have a good day!

Jim -- I wear the paper cone on my head, to demonstrate what a dunce I am. thanks for checking it out.

Geee.. I'm glad he was pleased to see you, and not the other way around!
The lens would have been deadly!

I found that quite funny with my new 12-24 - you can see the person and a bunch of stuff around them, and it looks like you're about a meter away, but in fact you're so close to the person their nose is almost touching the lens! It's a cool perspective :)

Your feet are too small - you're going to topple over soon. :)

j/k - that's my wide-angle humor for the day. Be glad that I have no more "jokes".

I think that you'll really enjoy that lens.

I get that effect with the 15 mm fisheye on the 1D2. It's quite cool to use at times. Other times, it just doesn't fit.

Is the shot out of focus in the upper left hand corner?

Mr Chad -- thanks for noticing!!! I set up this shot deliberately to have the upper edge, and the near end of the leash and top of my shirt be out-of-focus. It took a fair amount of fiddling to do it, too -- if focused on the dog's nose, the top of the picture was in focus.

Ron Chappel -- I've always respected your lens knowledge demonstrated in other posts, and that is confirmed here with your recommendation that I let my dog clean my lenses. Thanks, I'll be sure to try it.

I recently picked up one of these lenses too, it's so much fun! I was in the camera shop with a buddy standing about 5 feet away from him and snapped a quick test shot. He was in the picture from head to toe, and only came up into the photo about halfway. At that point I KNEW I had to get that lens!

I end up getting out of focus regions like that from time to time and it bugs the heck out of me. Sometimes I wonder if the Canon UV filter causes the issue. The 10-22mm has such a goofy depth of field-focal plane from time to time I don't know what to make of it. But boy is it a fun lens to play with :D
