HI, Just purchased a IXUS V3. Very impressed up to now with the small unit. I am starting to get CF errors and corrupt data errors on the camera.
Having looked through some of the past pages i am still a little uncertain if it is the card or camera. Unfortunately its only the odd image that gets corrupt and i can`t reproduce the fault.. It sometimes happens when i am deleting images - as if the card speed and camera memory can not keep up??
I have two cards (one that came with the camera (Canon 16MB -sandisk?) and a 128MB FujiFilm. I can only get it to go off with the Fuji card as it is the only card worth having in it at any one time.
Any advice would be appreciated, if the solution is to buy a sandisk type card then where (England).
Cheers, thanks in advance.
Great site/forum..

It seems to me that you have not formatted the CF cards.

Unfortunately i have done that already - but thank you anyhow.

I am using a LEXAR 256 MB 12X, and no problem at all. Same with the 16 MB that came with the camera. This may be redundent, but did you format them with the camera?

Yes, both cards have been formatted using the camera.

I have exaclty the same probleme as you !
Ixus V3 with a 128Mo Dane-Elec.
CF error, corrupted data...
I've tried my CF with another device : it seems to work great.
I've tried to upgrade to last firmware the V3 (1.0.2.0). Not helped much....
Formatted the CF with PC (FAT & FAT32 (not working at all) ). With the IXUS V3....Same results....
Any other ideas ?

I have shipped my card back and bought a Sandisk unit - no problems as yet.
There may be another explanation.
Before my card went U/S i had plug it into a reader. I have read other postings with similar findings in this forum.
mmmmmm
so at present my fingers are crossed, if i purchase a reader/writer i will buy the best quality i can find.
cheers..

The problem is definitely to do with the card, I had the same errors when I bought my camera c/w a standard Integral card. After returning the card to the dealer twice!, they eventually admitted there was a problem with 'slower' cards on the ixus v3 and sent me a pro spec (20x) integral card which has been problem free.
I've also read elsewhere that the sandisk cards are the same spec as the genuine canon cards, so they also work.

I've juste received my 256Mb SANDISK.
I'll give a try and tell you about this very annoying problem.
Give me hope !

I had corrupt files with a V3 using four different 256mb Crucial CF cards.
What seemed to cure it was formatting the card in the PCMIA slot of a laptop. I used the right click, properties, format route and opted for FAT from the three choices offered.
The camera had worked perfectly well with the 12mb card it came with - and a 32 card that came from my G3.
The 256 Crucial cards simply got worse and worse - until I did the external format.
Someone also suggested formatting the card in another digital camera if you have one.

As I have posted on other thread I'm having exactly the same problem that you all are describing using a 128 CF Memorex card with the Canon PS A70.
It seems that my dealer only sells memorex memories so I will try to replace it with another memorex card. Let´s see what happens.
It´s a pity that Canon does not know this problem of their cameras. At least, the manual does not say anything about minimal memory speed or specs to accomplish.
I have emailed both Canon and Memorex but have no reply yet. If the tell me something (no hope) I will post it here.

Has anyone tried formatting a faulty card in a computer or with another camera yet?
I am new to this forum. Is it not monitored by Canon? If not surely we have a line into them.

I have the same problem, only it just shows when starting my ixus v3 (when it's cold), I have a 128 mb Transcend cf card. When the camera has started up a couple of times the cf errors disappear and the card works just fine.
Maybe a temperature aspect?

I have spoken with Memorex by phone and with Canon by mail.
Canon says that there is not any known problem with memory speed.
Memorex says that their memory should work on Canon cameras so I must have a faulty one, and they urge me to return it to my dealer and get another one. Well, if the new one works, the problem won´t be speed related...

Crucial UK have told me they know there is a problem with the Ixus and their cards.
They are swopping my cards for me.
Can I ask yet again............
Has anyone tried re-formatting a card with a PC?
It worked for me.
Why not try. It might work for you.
I have a Crucial card that I have made to work. But, as they know my batch has problems I am letting them replace them to save future problems

On usenet I have read that formatting the CF card with a PC scans for bad sectors and marks them, though doing it with the camera only clears the fat. So if there are physical errors on the card they only get fixed with a PC format.
Anyway I have returned my Mermorex card and have got a Transcend 30x one. Now everything goes fine, hope it lasts!

I just figured out that my problems with corrupt images (at least the latest ones) was caused by WIA driver or some other software component that rotated the image. It happens when USB is set to "Normal" mode (not PTP) and the image is being automatically rotated (vertical shot with "auto rotation" enabled).
When I switched to PTP transfer mode, I downloaded images again and they were correct (but rotated)

To Users with CF ERRORs:
I think you guys may check the PINS in your camera slots, some maybe are bent or even some dirt or grit is causing the error, to lost files, try "chkdsk /f" with a card reader and retrieving the lost clusters to files, rename the files to .jpg

They replaced them with cards from another batch and they seem fine.
No argument and a speedy service.
I'll certainly be buying my next batch of cards from them on the basis of that service.
