Her tattoo(s) IMO detracts from the image. :/

To each his own I guess...I personally do not have any tattoos but she has several and chose to not cover them and actually wanted to show them off...I mainly wanted to capture the true essence of the bride...so that is why the tats are in the image...

Thanks again for the comment...

The moment is great.

For me though, tattoo's just seem to be a distraction for me :(

IMHO, the tattoo is who she is so well done with the capture.

wait... aren't we supposed to critique the photo, and not the bride's style? If the tattoo is part of who she is, then it is our job to capture exactly that: Who she is. It's not the photographer's fault that the bride has a tattoo.
Sorry... I'm usually VERY diplomatic, but sometimes things irk me.
Anyways, the photo itself is a nice capture... Pops looks super proud n happy, and the bride looks like she's having a blast.... the very emotions we love to capture as wedding photogs.
The dress is a bit blown out, though... You've lost some detail (Which is easy to do).... Even as a jpeg, you can still bring back some detail and make this a great image

Emotion good. Tilt bad. Colour, not a fan of. Seems very "grainy".

As I said before, I am not a "tat" fan myself...but if the bride is and it is her day...then "tat's it is" :) I mainly just wanted to show her as she was...not try to photoshop things out, etc.

Thanks again for the comments!

I do agree about critiquing the photo and not the bride...lol...
I can see where some of the dress is a little blown out, so I can go ahead and add some of that back in...my favorite part of the shot was in fact the emotion that they showed...I just absolutely LOVE her dad's face in this one :)

the tilt was done in PS because I originally cropped it and tilted it on accident and really liked what it ended up with instead of the original "straight on" type of shot. As for the edit and the grain, just trying a different type of edit, etc. on the photo...I wanted something a little different from the original B&W...plus like I said earlier this was done in LR, which I usually do not use...I usually use Photoshop3 on my husband's computer, but did not for this one image...granted all of them will be run through PS3 and not LR for final processing...

I like the whole scene! Expressions are priceless and they look to be having fun, Tattoos add some mystery and the tilt really swings :)

blown out and loss of detail in the blacks. great capture of emotion.

as for the tat... i honestly didn't even notice the big one on her neck until like the fourth time looking at it. at quick glance i just thought it was hair. and probably because I was to busy trying to figure out who puts a name tat under their chin?!? **cough, stupid, cough**

Totally agree. Who tattoos their neck? But you've got good expressions which is the most important part of any image. Even if a dress is blown out, this image will have the ability to bring this moment back immediately to the people who shared it. What a precious gift.

Yeah...I am not sure I have ever seen a name tat under the chin...but "to each his own" i guess... :)

As I said before...I used LR to edit the photo and am not really used to using it because I always use the PS3 on my husband's computer...which was not available at the time I edited it...
I was mainly just playing around with it because I loved the emotion of the image...

Thanks for the comments and the critiques... :)

I like the tilt, the color and their expressions...though the father seemed happier than her...

Anyway, I personally would remove tattoos from any photo that goes in my portfolio....it just doesent look classy most of the time.

Photo wise - I agree about the sepia tone and the tilt. I think it's GREAT moment, their expressions are wonderful. The grain.. eh.. I think sometimes it works, and it'd look better as a straight B&W.

You guys know this is a public forum, right? Yes, perhaps it's a slim chance that the bride will stumble across it, but as professionals shouldn't we abstain from passing judgment on other people's clients? It's not your job to judge the bride's appearance. What if someone posted photos of a very overweight bride? I doubt everybody is going to start going "Oh, that'd be a better photo if the bride wasn't so fat, that's gross!" NO, because saying someone is fat is taboo and considered bad manners. Yet, it's okay to talk trash about someone because they chose to get tattoos you don't like in an area you don't like? I don't think so. Chill out, people.

As far as the tattoo goes...I mainly posted this image on here for CC and just for fun...that is usually why I post things on here...so it is not going in a portfolio anyway...

and yes...in this image the dad was very happy...all smiles :)

again with the tat...I didn't really post the photo to bash the bride or get a lot of comments on the tat...like I said earlier...I am personally not a "tattoo person"...but if someone else is...then that's their thing...no biggee...

thanks for the comments about the image...

and I totally agree with the public forum part...I never thought that people would post so much about the tattoo...lol...i figured they would post about not liking the tilt or the processing, but who knows...lol

As for the grain...it is much granier after the upload than it is on my computer...which stinks...so oh well...

Thanks again!

Thanks suecassidy! That is why I loved this image so much...just because of the expression that he has...

It's a public forum. Therefore you are going to get a vast array of opinions.

If you want everyone to keep their comments to themselves, then it's not a forum.

When you critique a photo, you critique the way and the process that the photo went through, the subjects clothing, the lighting, background surroundings and the subject him/herself.

actually though, it is against the rules to make comments about the model...the comments are solely supposed to be directed regarding the photograph itself.

These forums are for people to critique the technical aspect of a photo... not the subject's personal choices. Clothes for a shoot... fine, if they're YOUR control... this is not always the case. But the bride can't just go into the dressing room and change her tattoo... It's a part of who she is, so who are we to judge?
The photographer can't change or control what someone did to themselves in the past. We are to capture what makes them who they are. You wouldn't sit there and say that the Bindi on that Indian bride is distracting... NO, you wouldn't. I don't have any tattoos myself, but I do have respect for people and their choices....

Bride looks OOF to me, and I usually don't see that.

Didn't even notice the tat, thought it was her hair. On the other hand, her children will never forget her name, being as it's under her chin... Or anyone else from that angle... ;)

Curious as to why you preferred this shot to color?

LOVE the emotion, and isn't that our job, after all? Great image!

Thanks for the comment collierportraits...

She may be a bit soft or have some blur due to motion and them dancing...
I liked this shot better than the color shot because the warmer sepia tones seemed to fit the image better than the color version...

As far as the tattoo under the chin...I think that is the first time I have ever seen that before...definitely had to hurt!

IMHO, the tattoo is who she is so well done with the capture.

Exactly, some people want to be captured in an image exactly the way they are with no skin editing, etc..she wanted to show off the tatoo by getting it on her neck so let her show it off, that is who she is..who are we to change people if they like themselves that way.

This was my thought exactly...and mainly becuase of her personality. Her mother-in-law was not too thrilled about the tattoos, but the bride repeatedly mentioned how she did not want them photoshopped/airbrushed out and did want them to show...that was my reason for not editing the tattoo. Plus, I would never directly alter the bride's apprearance without her knowing or especially without a request from her...

Thanks for the comment! :)
