Hi all
When printing on my new R800, I get the "blue screen of death" and have to reboot.

Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the software and drivers, but still happens.

Previously had a R300 and used this without any problems.

Anyone any ideas?

John

Mastineo,

What version of Windows are you running? (XP-Service Pack 2, etc)
What kind of interface does your printer have with the CPU (USB, parallel, etc)
What version of printer driver are you using?

Wow! A BSD in XP Pro is very rare. Do your other USB peripherals all work ok?

Yep, scanner, card reader and ext. HDD all work fine!

Odd. I'm running the exact same printer and setup and never have any problems. Steven is correct in that BSD's are rare beasts any more.

If you can, catch as much info from the blue screen as you can and see if you can find out more info on the culprit.

Try if possible plug into a different USB port. If still fails, then try attaching through a USB HUB 1.1. I know that ext. hdd's with Write Delay failures can be worked around using this method. For Printers, you can survive without 2.0. You can also set the BIOS to force the port to be USB 1.1 and see if this will work. At least you can determine if this is a cause.

Thanks for all the help.

Switched the printer to a 1.1 Hub and all seems well now.

If you can go back to SP1, try it. SP2 is randomly quirky

Ah, there's the difference I didn't think of. My laptop is old enough to have USB 1.1 ports built in, which is where I plug in the printer. I have a CardBus USB 2.0 adapter I use for my external storage and just keep the printer on the 1.1 ports.

Guess I won't try the printer on the 2.0 port, then. :D

Glad to know it helped. I had experienced this in the past and noticed it varies from device to device. It appears to be some devices have problem keeping a constant stream of info.
