Photos are too dark with powershot A40

We are shooting inside a warehouse and can't seem to get out photos light enough. Flash or no flash -- they all look terrible. Dark and muddy looking.

Here's what I really don't understand...

In the camera -- the look great. Move them to the computer and they are terrible.


What are we doing wrong?

Any ideas?

I've found the same thing with my A 40 but I've managed to adjust. I always take shots that seem a little over exposed on the camera screen. The light indicators seem to be fine regarding focus and flash.
