Taken in a park near my home. The light of the setting sun brought out the texture of the wood and I tried to capture some of the wood texture and play of the light.

C&C appreciated as always, especially any tips about composition.

I really like the detail, and the bokeh in the background is awesome. I can get a decent depth of field, but I never get the big orbs of color. I really like it. I wish I could give you some technical pointers, but I'm still very new at DSLRs and what-not.

... and you did so admirably. I like this shot a lot. The vertical lines in the background echo those in the stump. You got the light perfect. Without the sunlight on the background you would have lost the dramatic effect. Depth of field is as good as it gets. Kudos on getting low. All too many beginning photographers don't have a good vertical sense.

The one thing that bothers me is the tree in the background on the left. It breaks up the unity of the lines. I would have tried taking a half step to the left and aiming a little right to get it out of the image. However, I have a feeling that you would have lost the nice framing on the sunlit tree trunks in the background. This could be one of those settings where it is impossible to get what you want from the shot, given the position of immovable objects.

I like it. I love that you left some foreground and the bokeh is great, especially with those orange sunset streaks.
