Well, I've been putting iit off, thinking I was just going to bring my laptop, but thinking my camera gear alone is too much already to be lugging to and from Hawaii...not to mention eveything that the significant other will be bringing back in the form of souveniers. Not worried too much about speed, more concerned with storage space and reliabilty. I know there are the cheaper non ultra sandisk cards, but what about PNY (which are tons cheaper), or some other off brands that I can get somewhere like best buy or staples? anyone have any of these, and can tell me of your success with them? on a pre-vacation budget, but would like to get one or two 1gb cards. i can't online order them, because i will be leaving in two days. i know, shame on me. :othanks to all of the speedy replies.

Run over to the Fry's Electronics store of Sacramento. I'm sure that they can fix you up with something quickly and cheaply.

thank you for your response, Bob. i would go to Fry's, but by the time i get help my plane would leave. they are not exactly the best when it comes to customer service in my opinion. ;) (sorry if you or anyone else here happens to work there) looking more for personal experiences from people using the el cheapo cards.

I agree that the average customer service person there at Fry's is not the sharpest tool in the shed. However, if you do ten minutes of research to determine a few good brand names (e.g. SanDisk and Lexar) and models, and then if you go to Fry's, you will see at least one of the good ones on their memory display board. They will take your order within a few minutes, and then you can pick up the CF card on your way out past the cashier.

It isn't the cheapest place, and it isn't the best place for technical know-how. But for convenience they score high around here. You can get everything from computer chips to potato chips almost on the same aisle.
