for someone starting out. I already shoot 100% manual mode. I pretty much understand exposure. I am wondering though if there are any books that are you all might suggest. I love to read anything I can get my hands on, but dragging my laptop around to read while I am cooking dinner or outside with the kids is not working LOL.

"Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Petersen is a fantastic book -- even if you *think* you already know it.

In addition to the above (excellent) recommendation, Scott Kelby's The Digital Photography Book (Volumes 1, 2 and 3) are great reads.

i've been reading Bryan Peterson's "Learning to See Creatively : Design, Color & Composition in Photography". has really helped me with my composition as far as learning to properly compose a shot.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I have hears mixed revies on understanding exposure. Some say that it is out of date information? I tried to find it at my library and they didn't have it. I am looking into THe Digital Photography Book. Thank you for all of your help.

It's in book stores. I haven't checked a book out from a library in 20+ years, only DVDs. Understanding Exposure was written in 1991 so it's based upon a film SLR that only had centerweighted averaging meter mode and only manual mode. It's slightly updated to throw in digital references to a nikon d70 and d2x. And metering was more essential with film in tricky situations unlike the histogram of today's digicams.

The 3rd edition will be coming out in Aug. That should be up to date.
If you're into macro, you should check out Bryan Peterson's youtube channel. These are some good stuff
