Hi All,

Finally got round to posting a selection of my shots from the British Motorcycle Racing Club (BMCRC) meeting at Snetterton a few weeks ago. The weather was a bit of a mixed bag, with some bright sunshine, some showers, and typical Snetterton - very windy!

All shots were taken with my Canon 40D, plus either a Sigma 50-500mm EX HSM, or Sigma 70-200mm EX HSM lens - I used both throughout the day.

1. Chasing through Russells.

2. Head down, bum up for full throttle up the pit straight out of Russells.

3. F1 & F2 Sidecars were great to watch. Here is one on the start-finish straight after a downpour.

4. A herd accelerating through and out of The Esses.

5. Head on shot at The Esses - This Moto Guzzi was a real beauty.

6. Slow shutter speed pan on the pit straight.

7. One of the lovely Jordan sponsored bikes cranked over at The Esses.

8. Finally, a gaggle of smaller twin cylinder bikes negotiating Russells.

Apologies for the descriptions in layman terms, I don't really have much knowledge of bike racing. Hopefully they don't offend anyone though!
As always your comments and criticisms are welcomed - I am always trying to improve my photography so it all helps.

Cheers

I like the first and middle corner round ups. They look good. How do you like shooting with the 50-500? I tried a friend's before and just had issues with it. Seemed like the AF was slower than I was used to with Canon L lenses. :( But your shots look nice.

Thanks for the comments. You are certainly right regarding the 50-500mm Sigma lens AF speed being slower than Canon L lenses. I am really pleased with the results I get from my 50-500, but in low light the AF does struggle a bit to keep pace with the subject at motorsport. Without a doubt if I could afford it I would be using Canon L glass, but the cost difference for lenses of comparable focal length was substantial so I opted for the Sigma. For the price I can't fault the Sigma, it's a very versatile lens (with the large telephoto range), and on anything but a dull day I get fantastic results comparable with what could be achieved with a Canon L lens. Hope that helps :D
